So I imagine it goes something like this.

Sean: So the Giants met your price and met ours. Do you really want to play there?
Matt: No not really! Think we can work it out because I'd rather be here?

Sean: Sounds good because we never wanted to trade you we just said we'd go through the pr

Who said Stafford was likely gone? All I remember is EVERYONE saying that he was likely staying but he could go. I think Allbright had one tweet last week that was like the longer this goes, the more I think he might go.
Bonsignore or whatever his name was said he was basically gone. I'm too lazy to look it up right now but there were some others as well.

Matthew Berry, NBC Sports:
Multiple people I trust told me Kelly Stafford has significant influence around the Rams’ organization.

If it was posted before, I'm posting it again. Just a nugget of variable interest, depending on your POV. Here's the whole section:

The Top 25 Rumors I heard at the NFL Combine

1. The biggest topic of the Combine (other than that Starbucks confrontation!) was what was going on with Matthew Stafford. As we now know, he is returning to the Rams, but I can give a little more context here. The Giants were very much in the mix and one source told me the plan for the Giants was to BOTH trade for Stafford AND trade up to get a QB. Yes, as has been reported a lot of other places, the Raiders were also in the mix. A lot of this stemmed from the Staffords’ feelings he was underpaid (he was) and also the relationship had, well, just fractured between them and the Rams’ organization.
Yes, I said Staffords. Multiple sources told me that among the strained relationships one was between the franchise and Stafford’s wife, Kelly Stafford. According to one source, Kelly was supposedly the one who wanted Matthew to play elsewhere. Then another told me Kelly was the one who wanted to stay in LA. They have four young kids and didn’t want to uproot them. So, who knows on this part of it. Shrug emoji. However, I don’t think it matters who wanted to leave and who wanted to stay. Obviously, any husband is going to talk with his wife about everything, especially if it involves changing jobs. So, that’s not a big deal and ultimately, it all got done and the Staffords are back where they belong. But I’ll just say this: I was very surprised how often her name came up during the Combine and not just as it relates to Matthew. Multiple people I trust told me Kelly Stafford has significant influence around the Rams’ organization.

Interesting, I didn't see that from him or others.

"The Raiders have emerged as a front-runner among multiple teams to acquire Stafford in a trade with the Rams, who gave him permission to speak with other clubs to gauge his financial market outside of Los Angeles. No deal is imminent.
.....

Whether Stafford gets what he wants remains to be seen, but NFL sources indicate the Raiders and his camp have found common ground on what a potential new contract could look like.

It’s now about coming to terms with the Rams on a trade package."

This is the only thing about a deal that I could find. I know the 2nd part was all over social media as well.

Seems pretty straightforward to me, in that both the Rams and Stafford were being honest. Stafford side wanted to be respected, the Rams weren’t going to budge on a long term deal.
Both sides got what they wanted and all is well in Rams world.

"That all bodes well for the Rams, who seem resigned to trading Stafford at this point. A bidding war drives up the asking price."

Above is what he said in the same article - which is saying the rams feel they have no choice but to trade him.

I saw this, did you read this as Bogsinore saying he was "basically gone" or that it was likely to happen. I didn't. They hadn't even discussed trade package at the time this was done.

I think maybe the poster read things like this and other reports and interpreted it through their lens.

read what i quoted from the article -

He said at this point the rams were "resigned to trade Stafford" just a matter of who was going to bid the most.

So yes he was saying the stafford was likely gone.

Well if it was on the internet, it must have been true, right?
Lol
I mean, I will say, by the time that Bog's article came out, I had moved from 80/20 he stays to 50/50. It was late in the process though and I truly remember ever single pundit saying "hey, this could happen" then "hey, a divorce is picking up steam but he's still probably coming back" to "hey, it's a toss up."

Just never really smacked of "basically gone."

Bos was saying he was basically gone... Some other person said the longer no deal is announced the more it seems Stafford is gone.

There was another one also but kind of done re-hashing it.

So cheers!

Seems like they were doing what we do here. read and hear stuff and then "read between the lines" like that means anything other than speculation.

All of the rumors came from outside the Rams Organization. The Rams are very closed up when it comes to negotiations. When we got reports from our beat reporter it was really nothing new. The Fitz and Whit podcast where McVay was interviewed only left you with the feeling that if McVay had his way it would be Stafford as his QB. Of course even that led to "reading between the lines" by some on this board and them thinking McVay was setting us up for when we loose Stafford.

There was never any news that had any confirmation other than other media re-reporting somebody's rumor. Then because more than one reports it, it becomes some sort of truth.

Just like reposting a tweet a bunch of time makes it the truth.
