I know a lot of people around here don't like Chris Simms. IMO a big part of it was his criticism of Goff. The same concerns many people around here shared as well, but I never found him as insufferable as Mike Florio who is just a total idiot. Simms has actually been pretty spot on in his QB draft evaluations the last 5 years or so.

Anyways, he's in the process of ranking his top 40 NFL QBs, and today Stafford came in at #8. Definitely worth a listen as he gives Matt a ton of praise many around here should hear.

Simms' list so far and today he announced: 8) Matthew Stafford, 7) Kyler Murray, 6) Lamar Jackson, 5) Russell Wilson

I have to believe that he's a top 3-5 QB talent. He kinda HAS to be a better option than Kyler Murray and at least as good as Wilson or this trade loses some of its shine to me.

So until proven otherwise, I'm saying Stafford is only behind Mahomes and Rodgers... and at worst is tied for third in the next tier with a few other guys like Wilson.

My prob with Simms was that he jumped on the BS right away with Goff before he had time to really show who he was as a QB. He was straight up jealous over his situation IMO.

Re: Stafford I think he's a cut below the top guys so I'm fine with where they put him. Hopefully he shows he belongs up there this year with a MVP type season and a championship though.

Btw Goff behind Taysom Hill and Darnold? C'mon man. I mean shit didn't work out here and he's got a lot of stuff to work on but he's also done some really good things which is more than I can say about some other guys above him on that list.

As a Rams fan, gotta barf in my mouth a little to say this, but... Brady at #10 behind Prescott and Murray? Who would you least like to face in a playoff game of those 3?

And yeah, Goff at 31 is pretty harsh. Behind Wentz, Darnold, Newton, Taysom Hill, three rookies and.... Jameis Winston?

For anyone interested ( and I don't wanna derail this thread) here's a link to Simms' take on why he put JG at #31. Starts at the 59:00 mark, and they discuss for about 15 minutes.

Simms praises JG's arm strength, toughness, calm demeanor, and big-game experience. Simms criticizes JG's decision making, a supposed "wobbly" ball, and his vulnerability to the blitz.

I'm not a big Simms fan but have you seen the ball come out of Goff's hands the last couple years?? Clean pockets, perfect protection, and just throwing dying quails out there. This is before the thumb injury, I have no clue what happened to his mechanics. His throwing fundamentals have just gone to shit the last two years. Which is why his accuracy has been so off too. And this has nothing to do with his play facing the blitz or reading defenses, both parts of his game which are below average. I'm just talking about throwing clean, consistent spirals.

Don't agree with his entire list but one thing I do agree with him on is what he said about Stafford. That he has top 4 arm talent in the NFL. Mahomes, Rodgers, Allen, and Stafford definitely have the best arms in the NFL. I agree with that 100%. Simms watches a lot of film, I'll give him that. And if you watch Stafford on film you see a lot of great things.

Don’t bother listening to Simms. How can anyone rank Joe Burrow who missed so much time, and rookies that never played?

Stupid list imo. Besides that he hasn’t seen Stafford in McVays offense. He has no idea how he’ll play. Then having Taysom Hill rated that high, is a joke. How many Passes has he thrown.
I don’t care how much film Simms has watched @Shuie3225. It doesn’t make him any smarter.

It is true he was right about Mahomes, Josh Allen and Herbert. Im not the biggest fan of Simms like I said but I'll give credit where its due. And I suspect you didn't watch many Bengal games last year, or LSU games the year before. If so you would know how good Burrow is. Cant defend the Taysom Hill ranking and some other ones on his list though. Some are odd. But all I said was I agree with what he said in the video about Stafford's arm talent being top 4 in the NFL. Doesn't matter what offense you play in when evaluating arm talent.

A lot of guys looked great in college and couldn’t make it in the NFL. Burrow does not have a very long track record. There was a stretch where Goff looked like a top five QB in 2018.

The list is a Top QB list. Putting a QB on that list, who has barely thrown any passes on that list is a joke. Putting a QB who never threw an NFL pass on the list is ridiculous . I’m not whining about Goff’s rating btw. I do think it was too low but not by a lot.

Agreed, clearly this is just to spark conversation during this dead time of year.
I can’t see putting any rookies on this list and that includes Lawrence, until a guy actually throws a pass in the nfl I don’t wanna hear how great they are. And apparently Simms is going to stay on the Kyler Murray bandwagon, I just don’t see it, and Lamar? I think he’s fighting for his job in any other system. But whatever, these guys have made a lot of money from people calling them idiots.

He's gotta be smoking crack if he ranks Kyler Murray above Stafford, that's just insane.

Seems like most people are looking at the other QBs on his list and not watching the comments and segment on Stafford. Thats what I was trying to highlight. Crazy how many people turn this into a negative or focus on Goff. My God. This is a subjective ranking he made. You can fully disagree of course, but sometimes it's great to hear your new QB being ranked among the best in the NFL and hearing analysis on why he's going to play great in McVays system. Goff is gone. He hasn't been a good player for a long time now. Lets move on and focus on the new talent we have under center for fucks sake.

As long as Oompa Lumpa is rated behind Stafford, dude’s a genius...

Dude you're nuts. He played 10 games of great football as a 21yr old rookie on a terrible team. With the 30th ranked OL. Did you watch him play one game? No you didn't. You act like hes ahead of Stafford on this list.

Saying the rookies shouldn't be as high is one thing, saying Burrow shouldn't be 17th just shows you need to watch more football outside of the Rams. He's legit.

I think you are wayyy overreacting.
This thread is fine. It's generating conversation. There is no drama here. No arguments or old debates.

Kyler Murray is absurdly overrated.
Rookies shouldn't even be on this list.
Despite his praise for Stafford, Chris Simms still molests collies.

It's literally 3 people as a side comment. Get over it.

Besides most ppl, including myself, hate PFT and anyone associated with that fake ass football site. So you're gonna get these types of responses.
