It looks like the Patriots aren't impressed with him. Didn't they trade a fifth for him? If we go out and offer a seventh, would it be worthwhile? Would he fit in our defense? We could use the depth.

.

2 teams have given up on him in this off-season. Something is wrong there.

I'm not sure I would want a player who the Patriots (of all teams) consider a mistake.

Patriots ask their DEs to play a contain first, lots of DEs get frustrated with their style. It's why C Long left Ealy is a pass rusher first and asking him to hold the line then release is not playing to his strenghth. Never understood why they gave up a 2nd for him in the first place, but they are so thin at DE I would be surprised if they dealt him.

Carolina traded him because he is in the final year of his contract and Horton became a more complete player which made Ealy available. He is still a good pass rusher if used that way or situationally.

The Rams are going to have a tough enough choice on who to keep on the 53
As it is.

Why? Do the Rams have a shortage of good healthy young 34 DE's?

We just resigned Free Agent DE Tyrunn Walker who is a favorite of DL coach Bill Johnson & he came economy priced.

Besides 5th season vet Walker......Coach Johnson has five fully healthy DE's. His starters are 4 th season young vet. Ethan Westbrooks & surprisingly versatile rookie Tanzel Smart. In Johnson's strong rotation are back ups is stout & strong Louis Trinca-Pasat & pass rushing talent Morgan Fox with Rookie Casey Sayles showing well enough too.

If Johnson really needs a veteran big talent playing DE he can insert Mike Purcell in @ NT & then go hog wild with Micheal Brockers getting some of his old LSU type action @ DE. Then there's this other DE named Aaron Donald resting @ home prepping to explode once he gets his new contract. Lets see thats eight DE's for 2 posts. Do I need to add in that LB'ing coach Barry has let DL coach Johnson utilize a few of his OSLB'ers like Barwin, Longacre, McKinzy & Price in some of his DL schemes too. Did I forget to mention Rob Quinn?:sneaky:

What about Ahmad Brooks for some savvy vet LB depth?
Can the Rams afford his asking price? If Matt Longacre had not performed as well as he has in relief of the often injured Rob Quinn then it could be in for some consideration.

Currently they do have some injuries @ OLB with Quinn, Thompson & 4th rd selection Samson Ebukam. Not sure why Price & McKinzy were held out of last weeks game.

Longacre has been solid in preseason games.
I think his role in the new D fits him better than the traditional 4/3 DE. But, he hasn't dont anything if note in regular play.
I have little faith in Quinn's ability to stay healthy at this point.
He could provide LB depth both inside and outside. His asking price? I don't know.

Washed-up at 33 - no thanks
He can still play. Maybe not an every down player but would bring some good things depth wise.
Cost is one issue (why he was cut on a rebuilding team) and is that roster spot better spent developing a young player?
I think he goes to a contender sort of team.
Pittsburgh, GB, Dallas etc.
