Well, it got Tom Coughlin fired in New York, Wins SB, misses playoffs 2 of next 3 years, Wins SB, misses playoffs 4 straight and gone
Winning does a strange thing
McVay is currently the 9th longest tenured HC in the league, pretty crazy, and only 1 day from 8th place:
  1. Bill Belichick (New England Patriots): January 27, 2000
  2. Asshole Face (New Orleans Saints): January 18, 2006
  3. Mike Tomlin (Pittsburgh Steelers): January 27, 2007
  4. John Harbaugh (Baltimore Ravens): January 19, 2008
  5. Pete Carroll (Seattle Seahawks): January 9, 2010
  6. Andy Reid (Kansas City Chiefs): January 4, 2013
  7. Mike Zimmer (Minnesota Vikings): January 15, 2014
  8. Sean McDermott (Buffalo Bills): January 11, 2017
  9. Sean McVay (Los Angeles Rams): January 12, 2017
I am confused, I thought Asshole Face’s twin Richard Nose coaches in Seattle

My list:

1. Vermiel. Won us our Super Bowl in the face of a front office that was a clown car. He's top dog for me.
2. Allen. Very much like McVay in that IMO he was a step ahead of his contemporaries on the leadership side. He'll be 3 here soon.
3. McVay. By the time he's done he'll be our Walsh. I hope. No need to crown him yet.

My thoughts as well.

There was a stretch where Martz was fun as hell. Like a good bender.

I find it weird when a fan “likes” a coach so much that he puts blinders on.

Its quite an interesting Phenomena to observe.

:):fistbump:

See what I did there my friend?

I see what you were going for but it doesn't work - the only way that comment would have worked is if McVay had a losing season and I was "putting blinders on" - but he hasn't.

McVay is the only coach in Rams history to win the AP coach of the year award.

He's one postseason win away from tying the most in Rams history.

He's the first Rams coach to string four consecutive winning seasons together since John Robinson.

He has the third best winning percentage in Rams history, but has more playoff wins than the two ahead of him.

And most importantly, he's 4/4 in having winning seasons. No blinders needed for that - if he's not currently the best coach in the NFL, he's in the top 5.

Wonder who was actually behind the trade for Faulk? I didn't think it was Vermeil.

Yeah you would think that "putting blinders on" with a coach doesn't apply to a guy who has never had a losing season as a head coach to include three of four years in the playoffs.

Especially when it's the coach of the team you follow.

I presume Shaw heard he was on the market and asked Vermiel. Who told him to run back to the phone and get it done I am sure.

It's funny how much Vermiel did for this team. The drafts before he got there were horrific. Vermiel shows up, boom great drafts. Vermiel leaves back to shit drafts.

Some coaches are just better than the rest.

Until he wins championship, no for Rams.

1 Vermeil
2. Allen
3. McVay
4. Knox
5. Robinson

Best ever? That's some serious pipe dreams right there.

I second these rankings.

Vermeil not only turned the Rams around, he turned adversity into a Super Bowl championship with Kurt Warner. This was an unimaginable (at the time) and unsurpassable championship run. It will always be the stuff of legends.

Imo Vermeil would have won at least another Super Bowl had certain St. Louis sports writers (who could not accept his success after they had earlier turned against him) not mounted a campaign to kick him into premature retirement. They claimed that the Rams would lose Mike Martz if they didn't promote him to coach. Talk about ass backwards priorities!! Too bad exactly that didn't happen. Unfortunately, Vermeil allowed himself to be talked into quitting.

Not least, Vermeil was and is an extraordinary and gracious human being. Vermeil's loyalty to his players was also legendary. Of course, Vermeil would NEVER have pushed Warner out the door as did Martz.

George Allen was another legendary coach. As George Halas's defensive coach with the Chicago Bears he was responsible for one of the greatest defenses of all time in their 1963 championship year. He then brought his great defensive mind and motivational power to the Rams. A decade of losing seasons they went 49-17-4 under Allen. When the owner fired him virtually the entire team threatened to retire or demand a trade. Allen went on to bring his "the future is now" philosophy of trading future draft picks for capable veterans to the Washington Redskins, taking them to the Super Bowl.

McVay also deserves credit for engineering a massive and immediate turnaround in the Rams' fortunes. He has brought a number of exemplary qualities to the table, including high energy, effective communication and management, great assistant coaches, high precision practices and preparation, a relentless commitment to "win now" reminiscent of George Allen, and of course what appeared in 2017-18 to be an unstoppable offense.

McVay is by any standard an outstanding coach. Imo however the jury is still out on whether his offense as run the last two years will stand the test of time, or whether erosion in talent and familiarity have cut into its effectiveness. If he can duplicate his initial success with Stafford at QB, possibly or presumably with a revamped scheme, he will answer any critics (including me, though I am not really much of a critic and am rooting for his success!!). If so he will also cement his status as one of the greatest Rams' coaches.

I am totally not a fan of Sherman. I will share a story from a buddy.

He was on a River Boat Casino throwing dice. My buddy said this guy next to him was betting big on his throws. My buddy was on a heater, he’s a dice guy and knows what’s going on all the time at the table. He said me made 6 points in a row and this guy was making bank off him. He was annoyed because people kept coming up to the table slowing things down to talk this guy. My buddy is a blunt guy and asked the guy to step away because the distractions were throwing him off. The guy asked the pit boss for a roped off area to stand. The casino immediately ropes off the craps table.

Once my buddy was done throwing he chips out. The guy made at least 15k off his throws. My buddy is ready to leave and the guy throws him a few hundred in chips for the effort. Then gives he and his wife all his comps for dinner and stuff. My friend finally asks him who he is, it’s Sherman. My buddy tells him he knows his name but only follows the Broncos.

The best part is Sherman thanks his for his Super Bowl ring. They took a few pictures together. My buddy said he was a super nice guy and you could tell Sherman is super intelligent.

Vermeil had one good season that was nearly identical to McVays best, except for the outcome of the Super Bowl.

McVay having three more winning seasons offsets that IMO.

Martz is a good comp if we ignore the teams they inherited. Through 4 years they both had/have 43 wins, two division titles, three playoff appearances and one Super Bowl loss to the Patriots. But Martz had a losing season and inherited the best team in the NFL, allowing the defense to fall from top 5 to near historically bad.

Fisher....don't even know what to say to that. If serious, it's worth noting that the RG3 trade was a big part of getting the talent boost, and after a few years it was clear Fisher was holding the team back.
I think Fisher don’t get enough credit for what he actually did. He came in had to actually Gut the entire team from offense to special teams and everything in between. On top of that he had to navigate the move to LA. Fisher might not have been a good offensive coach but McVay wouldn’t be here on this team without the ground work Fisher did.

Fisher was a professional HC after two failed regimes with overmatched HC's in Linehan and Spags, he had to clean house.

So he & Snead did a good job of righting the ship and adding talent, he just was limited and outdated when it came to coaching offense and maybe even his defense was behind the times.

His offense was definitely outdated but his defense I think always played up to and better than expectations especially with how anemic the offense was

You missed the point of the argument but its water under the bridge at this point. FrantikRam accused Ram fans that supported Goff as being part of a weird phenomena where people just like a QB because they are a QB sort of like a Justin Beiber fan.

I pointed out how those who supported him did so based on perceived value demonstrated through wins and stats vs some weird fan boy blind hero worship or "like".

So as we see with Mcvay the exact same principle is in play. People see his value differently. Some including FrantikRam see him as the best Coach the Rams ever had, others see him as a really good coach but not valued over Vermeil since Mcvay hasn't won a Super Bowl.

My comment about putting blinders on was sarcasm. It was all in fun to show that fans actually put value on players and coaches that can differ, it does not make them a blind bias fanboy. And they shouldn't be branded that way. Everyone likes players and coaches because of perceived value....... and that shouldn't be viewed as some weird fetish because you disagree.

Fans views players and coaches different. It's Ok. (y)

Eric Dickerson claims he is the person who should receive the credit for that trade.

According to him... shaw (the world's biggest piece of shit)... thought the asking price for Faulk was way too much and had already told the Colts hell no. ED2105 claims that he then single handedly convinced shaw to do whatever it took to make the deal.

I believe ED.

Funny, you can say some of those same things for our previous QB.... but not our new one, who has not won squat, but let's hope that was the organization's fault and not partly due to any shortcoming he might have.

If QBs were responsible for wins and losses. But they're not. The head coach is though.

You can certainly give Goff cred for QBing us to the Super Bowl and winning a ton of games. But only fans are in a position where they can overlook his play on the field without it affecting their job security.
