He needs to get well before he can even think of a front office job. I wish him luck with his demons. May he defeat them entirely.

Dude has an eye for talent, wouldn't hurt to bring him in as an assistant.

I'd heard his downfall was the qb position. He went to Snyder to convince him that RG3 wasn't the answer they needed to change to Cousins. Now this year after tagging Cousins twice he went to Snyder to tell him Cousins wasn't the answer they should trade him to the niners. That was the end for him because Snyder hates the Shanahans.

RotoWorld :

In a wide-ranging column detailing the Redskins' impending split with GM Scot McCloughan, the Washington Post explains the separation was caused by arguments over control and whether to sign Kirk Cousins long term, and the Redskins' lack of support for McCloughan.

We would recommend reading the piece below if you're any kind of an NFL fan. McCloughan felt disrespected the Redskins did not defend him when Chris Cooley spread a rumor McCloughan had relapsed into alcoholism. McCloughan also told people in 2016 he would have signed Cousins long term "if he had full control," which "angered" president Bruce Allen. McCloughan and the coaching staff clashed over McCloughan's preference of more-talented Rashad Ross over coaches-pet Ryan Grant. The Post reports McCloughan never stopped drinking, but "peers all agreed they didn't believe McCloughan's drinking ever hindered his job." Per the Post, the Redskins and McCloughan are now "working toward a buyout." Allen and coach Jay Gruden have won the power struggle.

On Thursday’s PFT Live, Washington G.M. Scot McCloughan’s agent said McCloughan is healthy and that McCloughan’s recent absence from the team is unrelated to alcohol issues.

The team apparently disagrees; according to the Washington Post, the franchise fired McCloughan.

An unnamed source (really gutsy, Washington) attributed the decision to McCloughan’s “ongoing problems with alcohol.”

“He’s had multiple relapses due to alcohol,” the unnamed source told the Post. “He showed up in the locker room drunk on multiple occasions. . . . This has been a disaster for 18 months.”

The source also said McCloughan “has received alcohol treatment” since joining the team, and the source suggested that McCloughan was fired by both the 49ers and Seahawks for alcohol abuse.

On the record, team president Bruce Allen said this, in a statement released to the media: “The Washington Redskins have released Scot McCloughan from the organization effective immediately. We wish him success in his future endeavors.

The team will have no further comment on his departure. The organization remains confident in our personnel department as we execute our free agency plans as well as prepare for the upcoming NFL Draft.”

Per the Post, McCloughan has been fired for cause, which means that the team won’t have to pay the two years left on his contract. Ultimately, however, that question could be resolved in a grievance before the Commissioner and/or in a court of law — especially since players told the Post that they never noticed any issues with McCloughan.

“Of a half-dozen Redskins players reached Thursday afternoon, none said they’d ever seen McCloughan drink in the locker room,” the Post explains. “All but one said they never saw him act if he weren’t composed and in control. They added that they never felt he wasn’t able to do his job, and they seemed surprised the question was being raised.”

The smart move for Washington would be to pay the money and move on. They knew McCloughan had alcohol issues when they hired him, and the industry is rife with alcohol use/abuse. (Hell, Jay Gruden’s latest contract extension was negotiated AT A BAR.)

Short of any evidence that alcohol actually impaired his ability to do his job, this is nothing more than an effort to move on from a guy they no longer want and to rely on something they already knew about to justify not paying him.

Damn. The Foreskins could fuck up a wet dream. This team was a win away from the playoffs last year with an injury riddled roster. They have since been gutted...

Washington is becoming a joke of a franchise. Shame.

Become? Aren't they the franchise that signed both Adam Archuleta and OJ Atogwe to record contracts? And Haynesworth...

Snyder is a joke.

So once he gets bought out, assuming it will be after the draft is done, I would bring him in as an consultant and have him do the cross check on players after the area scout gives in their reports.

But it would be cool to get him in time for this draft.
