I think this is BS - not even a local reporter, but none the less it's out there.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5856/rodger-saffold" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5856/rodger-saffold</a>

Newsday's Bob Glauber reports Rodger Saffold will "likely" ask the Rams to trade him if they sign free agent Jake Long.

The Rams would likely move Saffold to right tackle if they signed Long, and Saffold probably doesn't want to move off a more lucrative position. Saffold is entering a contract year, and left tackles make nearly double the money -- on average -- that right tackles do. St. Louis considers Saffold a strong starter and does not want to lose him. How this plays out might get interesting.

From a team stand point I think Saffold is being selfish. From he's perspective of earning more money as it's a contract year will have more money on the table if he's a LT rather than a RT.

This my friends is speculation. Saffold will be in blue and gold.

I really hope so....because it would really solidify our tackle situation.

The wording of the tweet is everything. When you're using words like "potential," and "likely" that equates to "just a guess."

Problem is Jim Thomas retweeted it, saying "Trouble in River city?"

This might actually have some weight to it

JT or no, I call BS.

1. A single season at RT (Saffold is a UFA in 2014) is not going to label Saffold a RT only. Coaches watch tape and know the truth about Saffold's ability.

2. Speculation to stir the pot. People tend to believe that one player being moved from a preferred position is a bone of contention. That's why this sounds legit when it ain't.

3. "Bob Glauber reports" is not even a team source, let alone anything a player said.

I just don't see Rodger being like this. If he's seriously going to ask for a trade though.. get him out of here. That's selfish.

From son_dee at real rams fans:

Seems like BS speculation. BUT the "First Take" guy who announced this, Bob Glauber, does seem to have Saffold's agent as a source as seen in this article:

For what it's worth, Bob Glauber has run columns quoting Saffold's agent Alan Herman as recently as December. link

So this may just be an attempt at a threat or some PR from Saffold's agent.

But note how many qualifiers are in the original statement "Potential" & "likely". Besides as others have mentioned Saffold may not find many suiters. And as has been mentioned in other threads it could very well be that trading Saffold later this year is in the Rams plans ANYWAY depending on how things play out over the rest of FA, the draft, and the start of the season.

i didn't say it was stone cold truth - but it MIGHT have some weight to it. i personally don't believe it and hope it's not true

If his agent is floating this crap, he's doing Saffold a disservice.

I guess his agent wants to maximize his cut of the upcoming FA bonanza when Saffold contract runs out. :lmao:

I don't buy the story because I don't think it reflects Saffold's personality. Personally, I think he'd be happy to have the help on the OLine

Probably. That's what agents do, all he cares about is getting money.
