It always bows my mind seeing names on the list that aren't rock and roll. I also feel like the bar for the r&r Hall of Fame is kind of low.
True story..........
I'm from the CLE area and I remember when the big push to get the Hall awarded to Cleveland started, and then the big push to build it.
I became a "founding member" as they called it before the building went up. $75 for that honor LOL. I have the first newsletter called Liner Notes and all of the subsequent issues. Each year I paid my dues and I got a t-shirt, a cool sticker and the newsletter plus I could visit as often as I wanted free and could take guests a certain amount of times per year for free also.
I supported the Hall for many year but I stopped because they began putting people in who had no business being there while bands that deserved it weren't getting in. And several bands that have never played a single note of rock music too. Just look at this years list! LLCoolJ? Good act, great entertainer. Not rock and roll.
You are right about the low bar, but it's been that way forever and now that the "legends" are all in who's left? There is very little rock and roll music to look back on in the last 10-15 years. Maybe longer.
Eventually they will probably change the name to Museum of Modern Music or something to reflect what it's very, very slowly morphing into.
It's a great way to spend several hours though. It's well laid out and has so much interesting stuff and such cool exhibits. Stuff you'd never think. Like the backdrop "wall" for Pink Floyd's The Wall Tour (the actual stage with notes written on it by the band), handwritten lyrics from artists, clothing, instruments, cars and all sorts of stuff packed into a cool looking building.
You should consider a weekend there to see that and the Pro Football Hall of Fame one day after another.
