Biggest team needs : NT, CB, ILB, OLB & OT/OG depth. Our offense just needs for the young guys to mature and continue the developmental process, that & increase depth along the OL. The defensive front requires a quality NT, a replacement for Barron & TruJo, and competition with Ebukam for Connor Barwin's roster spot. Would like to have traded Mannion, but doubt he has much value following game 16, so we keep him for his final year of contract.

CAP cut Austin & Barron.

Extend Donald, Saffold & Quinn.

Re-sign Watkins, Joyner, Sullivan, Robey-Coleman, Easley (if healthy), McQuaide, Cody Davis

Re-sign vet minimum and possible camp cuts Tyrunn Walker, Cornelious Lucas

Tender all RFA's (Longacre, Hill, D.Williams, M. Brown, Lynch)

Let walk - Tru Johnson, Connor Barwin, Lance Dunbar, Derek Carrier

Free agency signings :

ILB - Todd Davis (Denver)
CB - E.J. Gaines (Buffalo) He's back

2018 Draft :

1) CB - Joshua Jackson, Ia.

6a) OLB - Mike McCray, Mi.
6b) RB - Mark Walton, Miami (change of pace & Austin replacement)
6c) OT/OG - David Bright, Stan.
7) ? Possible Kicker or developmental QB ?

I noticed no T. Smart DL on your projected roster, I think w/ an NFL off season he can be a good rotational dude..
Thoughts???

You never know what camp, a year in the weight room and good coaching might mean for him in 2018, but as of today I can only look at him as competition and a potential spot on the practice squad. Smart is a Wade Phillips pick-up, so I have to believe he should have a leg up as a hopeful, although they may prefer him outside or in sub-packages rather than as the starting NT. There will be a lot of competition next season with Easley hopefully returning and Westbrooks, Fox, Walker, Smart, Omarius Bryant and no doubt a new face to compete. If I had to make the selection today, it would be Walker as the rotating pass rushing interior guy and someone new as the rush defending rotational NT. I've seen where others have drafted a NT quite early, although I don't think Phillips/Snead will take that route, the amount of money already tied up on the Dline between Donald & Brockers plus the present competition and a mid-round pick should suffice, but I wouldn't be shocked to see a moderately priced free agent NT if someone Wade really likes comes available. jmo.

I hear that Josh Jackson kid is pretty good, not sure he makes it to us in the 1st.

Yeah he's been real high on a lot of boards thus far and with good reason. He doesn't get a lot of help and makes big plays, good ball skills, etc. And Ferentz just goes on and on about him so you know he's locked in with work ethic and locker room side stuff.

Have to think that if his 40 time is good he's locked in high enough to be a longshot for us.

Jackson is one to keep an eye out for.
2 positions get way over drafted, QB and OLT
I've seen mocks where only 2 of each get drafted before #23 and I could also see 5 of each drafted before #23

OK, it's been 10 days since this mock 1.0 was made and i'd like to make some minor adjustments. These thoughts have already been mentioned in other threads but thought they should also be incorporated here for better clarification. I've even added a trade for the poster that asked, ... Barron to Cleveland for a their second 4'th rd. pick, ... Barron's contract is far more in line once back as a starting WLB.

First, let's remove E.J.Gaines as returning to the Rams as a free agent, I believe both Troy Hill & Kevin Peterson have developed to the point where they may be considered fairly reliable reserves. Nothing else changes at CB other than the previously stated replacement of Tru Johnson for Joshua Jackson in the draft.

Replacing E.J. Gaines as a free agent acquisition would be Oakland NT Justin Ellis, and Tyrunn Walker would remain as his first rotational reserve. With this addition to the roster thru free agency, i'll now drop the DT as our 5'th round draftee while looking at a Cody Davis replacement. Other than new QB Kurt Benkert, 3 of our last 4 draft picks all end up on the Practice Squad now that depth is much improved from last season.

Free agency signings :

ILB - Todd Davis (Denver)
NT - Justin Ellis (Oakland)

2018 Draft :

1) CB - Joshua Jackson, Ia.
3) OT - Alex Cappa, Hum.St. (My surprise small school long shot)
4) RB - Mark Walton, Miami (Trade from Cleveland, change of pace outside threat, Austin replacement)
4) OLB - Josh Allen, Ky.
5) FS - Armani Watts, Tx. A&M (replaces Cody Davis)
6a) OG - Wyatt Teller, VTech
6b) QB - Kurt Benkert, Va.
6c) OLB - Mike McCray, Mi.
7) CB - Devontae Harris, Il.St.

The 53 :

Offense (25) :

QB) Goff, Mannion, Benkert
RB) Gurley, M. Brown, Walton

LG) Saffold, Blythe, Cappa

I'm sorry, but we're not getting Joshua Jackson without trading up for him. He's going top fifteen, maybe top ten if a quarterback or two fall.

Probably not, but i'll wait until after the Senior Bowl & East-West Shrine game to make another adjustment.

I'm now going to throw in the Denver CB Bradley Roby to my acquired free agents list already consisting of :

ILB - Todd Davis (Denver) - 25
NT - Justin Ellis (Oakland) - 27
CB - Bradley Roby (Denver) - 25

Roby is another young Bronco brought up under Wade Phillips, so should be a nice fit.

2018 Defense :

LDE) Brockers, Easley
NT) Ellis, Walker
RDE) Donald, Westbrooks, Fox
LOLB) Ebukam, Allen
ILB) Davis, Hager
ILB) Ogletree, Littleton, Lynch
ROLB) Quinn, Longacre, Allen
FS) Joyner, Watts
SS) John Johnson, Isaiah Johnson
CB) Jackson, Roby, Webster, Robey-Coleman, Hill

I was going to say that E.J. Gaines is not a scheme fit, but you replaced him. Bradley Roby is not a free agent. I'd love to get a pick for Mark Barron, but I don't see it happening. How is Joshua Jackson in press-man coverage? From what I recall, Iowa has a zone-heavy scheme. I've heard some concerns about his top-end speed.

Bradley Roby is not a free agent.

Yeah, Spotrac had him listed as a free agent a couple days ago, but apparently just discovered his team gave him his 5'th year option. I'll probably switch that back to Prince Amakamura following my next mock.
