Beatty was a terrific character actor in supporting roles but he did have a couple leading roles. One I recall was a made-for-TV movie (popular at one time) titled Friendly Fire.

Checked the date (1979). Beatty and Carol Burnett starred as mid-western parents looking to find the truth about their son’s death by friendly-fire, while serving in Vietnam.

No complicated story with strong political undertones. Just a sweet movie about two good people in mourning, supporting one another and looking for some closure to help with their grief.

Both Beatty and Burnett got to show their serious acting chops.
