Don't care about the Panthers or their wide receivers but I loves me some Ricky Proehl, and just wanted to get him a mention here, lest we forget too soon.

Madden and Martz are in this video. Proehl's catch against the Bucs in the playoffs at 4:00

Panthers WR coach Ricky Proehl talks up the talent in Carolina

In his first two years as the Panthers’ wide receivers coach, Ricky Proehl had to go through total turnover: The team’s top four receivers in 2013 were all gone in 2014. But in his third year, Proehl loves the talent he has to work with.

In fact, Proehl is willing to go so far as to say he’s the only one who can be blamed if the Panthers don’t have a productive receiving group in 2015. Because Proehl says he’s positive there’s so much talent in place that there are some NFL-quality receivers who won’t be able to make the 53-man roster.

“We’re going to have to let some good players go,” Proehl told ESPN. “It’ll work itself out, but as a coach, if I can’t be productive with what I’ve got, then that’s on me.”

Last year’s top two wide receivers, Kelvin Benjamin and Jerricho Cotchery, are locks to make the 53-man roster. So is second-round rookie Devin Funchess, as well as free agent signing Ted Ginn, whose contributions on special teams will get him a roster spot regardless of how much he contributes on offense. That leaves Corey Brown, Stephen Hill,Jarrett Boykin, Marcus Lucas, Brenton Bersin, Mike Brown and Damiere Byrdcompeting for one or two more roster spots.

In Proehl’s view, that’s plenty.

“We’ve got every weapon in our arsenal,” Proehl said. “I look around my room and you’ve just got not just really good football players, but good guys that work hard, that study, smart players. From a coaching standpoint, it’s exciting that you can go out and really coach.”

That’s what Proehl will do this year, with an easier job than he’s had in the past.

What a catch!!!

I'll never forget that beauty beating tampon. Hahaha

I'll also never forget our very own @Ramhusker proudly wearing his Proehl jersey into that dump known as Raymond James stadium.

That catch to beat Tampa bay in the NFC Championship Game was the one Isaac Bruce called his favorite catch of the 1999 season.

Lots of heart in that one, wish we could snag him for our WR coach, if not at least an assistant.

It was one of mine too.
We were having a tough time scoring points that day.
Without that catch, we go home. No Superbowl.
It still makes my stomach turn, seeing pics of that ball tenuosly in his grasp.

He certainly is a positive guy and a good motivator as a coach. That list of WRs would make many coaches cry over their scotch each night.
