Panthers wide receivers coach Ricky Proehl has informed the team that he plans to resign.

Per the Panthers’ official website, Proehl is stepping down for family reasons. He has two sons who will be playing college football next fall.

Proehl spent six years with the Panthers, the last four as wide receivers coach. He had a 17-year career as a player and played three seasons with the Panthers.

Proehl caught 669 passes and 54 touchdowns passes in his career while playing for the Cardinals, Seahawks, Bears, Panthers, Rams and Colts.

Hopefully his sons are as awesome as he was and end up on the Rams some day. Still can't watch "The Catch" without getting emotional.

No doubt... and he knew how to actually be a clutch receiver... hands catcher when that was the play.... body when that was the play... very low drop rate...good route runner, good body control.

The man knew his craft. He wasn't a height/weight/speed guy. He was just a good football player.

Always like Rickey and thought it was good sign by the Rams. Didn't know he would make one of the biggest plays in Rams history. Great videos! Good luck to Ricky Proehl and Family!
