A month ago I had a very productive zoom call with my financial advisor. I'm 57 and would like to retire at 59.5, 33 years with the company. We hashed out the game plan and she said we were in great shape to do it, so we were looking at June of '23 for a retirement date. We had a second meeting yesterday and the first thing I mentioned was that I wanted to actually up the amount I would bring home on a monthly basis. She said the plan still worked well. So just for shits and giggles I asked If the plan looks that good can I retire earlier? She crunched the numbers and said.... You can go now if you want.
:omg:
So I've set a date for June 1st of this year! We are so excited it's not even funny. It's absolutely amazing to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Our plan is to move to Florida, probably the Port Charlotte area, from California. The house search will start June 5th!

There is one MAJOR bummer about going now. I will probably not get to see a live game in the new stadium, which I have season tix for. Frikken COVID!!!!

That is great to hear. I just turned 55 in Jan and have 37 yrs with my company. My plan is 4 more years just after my 59th birthday and retire with 40 years in the IBEW local 1245. But is the stars line up maybe in 2 years make the jump. Need to pay for the solar i just put in and then unexpectedly got to drill a new well. But on the bright side I should be all set up with water and no power bill.

Going to redo the backyard this year and then it will be 3 bad days in a row and see ya!

Again congrats and safe travels and you will have to make it to at least one game in the new house.

Congrats on the retirement. I retired almost 4 years ago at 61. I realized it was going to be difficult to increase my income so I downsized and decreased my expenses. Now I enjoy the same lousy standard of living I've always enjoyed.

Congrats! I retired 10 years ago at the end of the year. If I could do it over I would have waited until spring.

In a perfect world we won't close on a house till November so moving will be a little more cooler and worry free.

Good for you, Brother! Well done! And... congratulations. It sure sounds like you deserve this!

My sister and brother in law retired in their mid/late 50’s from careers teaching school, ultimately as principals toward end.

Long story short; not insanely wealthy... but having THE TIME OF THEIR LIVES doing stuff you can see they enjoy.

Renovating and selling their home. Doing that same thing with another, selling it. Not exactly just killing time... but doing stuff they enjoy.

I am genuinely happy for you @LARams_1963.

I love being retired. Wish I could have done it at a younger age. Just returned today from 2 weeks of relaxing in a tiny Mexican village on the Pacific Coast. Fishing, sitting on the beach with a beer. My GF's uncle owns the house we stayed in. No phone, no computer, just the sound of the surf and people going about their daily business in the background. Just me and my GF. That's when you find out real quick just how compatible or not you both are.

Nice to get home though. Been retired now since the summer of 2017 and I can honestly say I've never been bored. Nice going to bed when I want and sleeping as long as I want. Don't miss SoCal in the least. LOL Hell I miss Popotla, Baja more than San Diego or LA. Life's too short to waste it on the pursuit of $. No amount of $$ is worth the years lost. So I can relate to making the decision to retire then simply pulling the plug as soon as you can.

Enjoy your retirement. Hope the FL humidity doesn't kill ya! I almost retired to Destin but the humidity and hurricanes changed my mind.

I love Destin, Navarre area but I never noticed the humidity I did in Orlando though when we went to Disney World.

I retired in January. 24 years plus in law enforcement and some time in the aerospace industry that netted me another pension. With two retirements I’m making more than I was working. The streets are getting pretty bad.

Since I retired, my station/area has had three officer involved shootings, all three were fatal for the suspects. With the way things are going it was time to go.

I’m going to move out of California and be nearby my grown kids and do some hunting and fishing. I bought a nice over/under just before I pulled the pin, gonna try duck hunting.

My brother has acreage In Idaho, I want to get an elk...just one though. Congratulations laram

Eyeballing retirement soon myself. The wife wants me to go now but I have my eye on between this August and next April. My financial advisor thinks it's risky to go now but I'm working on changing his mind. That guy is me though so.......................

So glad you're loving your retirement Brotha! As far as the humidity and bugs, I'm pretty sure we will be OK. I have spent a LOT of time in the tropics and think I have a feel for it. It also helps when you don't have to go to work in that weather too.

@Mike so glad you got out. That's a rough, thankless career. I know quite a few guys from my work who have ran up to Idaho the last few years.

@Ramhusker Keep working on your advisor!! LOL
