Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman is reporting that New England Patriots Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels is the lead candidate to win the Los Angeles Rams head coaching job:

The Rams want Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels...but, I'm told, McDaniels is in no hurry to become a head coach again.

...

[The Rams] want to make a huge splash with a big name, but around the league there is a lot of skepticism they can lure one. The reason is Jared Goff. There's tremendous doubt about just how good he is. The thinking goes that the Rams will find it nearly impossible to get the big name they want because whoever goes there will have his wagon hitched to a player who just might stink.

It’s going to be a long search with a ton of back-and-forth, so don’t get tied up in the early report. As Sports Illustrated’s Peter King divulged earlier this week, Rams VP/COO Kevin Demoff put in serious ground work in the Rams’ 2012 head coaching search in Greg Schiano. As we all know, the Rams ultimately went with Jeff Fisher before Schiano headed to Tampa Bay.

In any case as we head into the weekend, perhaps consider this our first legit rumor of the search.

Get used to these kind of articles for the next several weeks/months leading up to an official announcement. The off season with player and coach movement in LA can be a damn circus. "Leaks" and "reports" aplenty.

I would like to see an article from a talking head that actually watches the games.
Worried about Goff hurting the coaching search? That's just lazy "journalism".

I wonder how Mike Freeman is able to come up with this "scoop" given that the Rams have not and can not talk to Josh. As far as I know, the Rams aren't even allowed to talk about Josh and the head coaching vacancy.

I think the Jets are the case study in that.

There you go @lockdnram21 I gave it the official Rumor designation. Hope you don't mind me making that change.

perhaps consider this our first legit rumor of the search
And perhaps not. But yeah - I suppose we need to figure that these douches will be coming out of the woodwork to try to break any story or non-story they can before Florio publishes it as fact.

I think it used to be , a team couldn't talk to other teams assistant coaches untill they where done for the season ( out of the Playoffs )

I don't think that's the case anymore is it ?

My money is Josh McDaniels

Now that doesn't mean that's who I want , just who I think they'll hire

It's probably the safe bet for an article if you need to post something with no real substance. Kind of a connect the dots thing with what Stan has said in the past. I still doubt that is what happens but who knows. Probably not the guy writing the "article".

I think McDaniels would be a poor choice. There is no doubt the team will hire an offensive coach. Shanahan makes much more sense.

I'm good with McDaniels. He's young. He's worked with the best. He's had a lot of success. He's been a HC before, even if that didn't work out.

Lots of parallels to Bellichick, which speaking strictly on the football front, isn't a bad person to be influenced and compared to.

No thank you. McDaniels blew up the Broncos, laid waste to our offense by trying to implement schemes that didn't fit the personal. Guy likes either blowing up stuff or fitting square pegs in round holes.

Plus this is from BR which is shitty... like Jerry making up articles and posting them if he had real insight.

Followed the link to the "Tremendous Doubt" about just how good he is.
It led me to a article of Fran Tarkington saying Goff isn't a good QB.
So let me get this straight.Because of the comments Franny made.
The writer came up with the Idea that because Goff is on the roster
It will be nearly Impossible for us to land a top name coach.
That has got to be one of the absolute stupidest things I have ever read.
No offense to the OP.

Jacksonville is ready to retread the McD experiment. We already had our taste. Thank you Jags for being just that much more inept than us
