Teddy Bridgewater could miss the entire 2017 season as he continues recovery from knee surgery, Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole reports.

Bridgewater, a central piece of Minnesota’s offense and building process, was injured in practice in August prior to the 2016 season, tearing his ACL and dislocating his knee while planting to throw a pass. Doctors reportedly told the team he will need at least 19 months, which would mean he misses the entire season again.

The 24-year-old former first-rounder threw for 14 touchdowns and 3,231 yards in 2015, leading Minnesota to the playoffs where they fell 10–9 to the Seahawks.

Sans Bridgewater, the Vikings acquired Sam Bradford via trade, who threw for 3,877 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions as the Vikings went 8–8.

Speculation that Teddy Bridgewater will miss 2017 is off the mark

Speculation that Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will likely miss all of the 2017 season due to a serious knee injury suffered in August 2016 created a stir on Friday. Creating less of a stir will be the more accurate depiction of the situation.

A league source with direct knowledge of the situation called speculation that Bridgewater likely will miss all of 2017 not credible.

Mark Craig of the Minneapolis Star Tribunesimilarly reports that Bridgewater currently is continuing the rehabilitation processwithout a set timeline for returning. Which means that there’s no reason for “likely” or any similar term to be applied to Bridgewater’s status for the next season.

Could he miss all of 2017? Yes. Could he be ready for Week One? Yes. Could he return at some point in between? Yes.

The uncertainty makes it certain that the Vikings will pay quarterback Sam Bradford a $4 million roster bonus in March and another $13 million in 2017 salary. Whether the Vikings pick up the 2018 option on Bridgewater’s rookie deal by May 3 will say plenty about their faith in his ability to return, as will the question of whether the Vikings attempt to extend Bradford’s contract.

If they don’t pick up Bridgewater’s fifth-year option, the decision should be viewed as a very ominous sign regarding his future, in Minnesota or elsewhere.

Dislocated knee and torn ACL. Good grief!

There's another thread going that rates a teams need for a QB. Sorry, but if Sam's your healthy option, you've moved to the top of that list...

Sounds like he's a very lucky man those EMT's were there. Could have saved the lower half of that leg.

I'm shocked over this and did not realize it was this severe so IMO the Vikings made a great move in acquiring Sam Bradford who now of course is durable. Next season will Peterson be able to come back because he is older and the Vikings do have weapons, however, Bradford needs to showcase he's able to win a big game and Bradford should give Pat Shurmur half of his salary because Shurmur is amazing how he has convinced two organizations to make big trades for Bradford.

His knee dislocated, and the impact tore multiple ligaments connecting the patella to the tibia and fibula. The leg was folded up and the side of his lower leg was touching the side of his thigh. He almost lost his lower part of his leg.

Bridgewater went back to pass in a noncontact 11-on-11 drill, tripped in some fashion and landed in a way that caused his left leg to dangle in an anatomically impossible way nobody wants to talk about.

Yeah, I mean for all intents and purposes his knee and everything connected to it blew apart. They had to reattach everything for the most part. There is no way he is playing week 1 of 2017. Minnesota will deny it because it's the best thing they can do to try and keep their offseason and draft plans unpredictable but they aren't going to be fooling most people. And is also why they used that pick on Bradford because they've known since then that he could be the QB for more than just one season.

I feel terrible for this kid. I really think he was primed to have a breakout year in 2016.

Initial reports were saying it would most likely be a 2 year process, the guy's lucky to have a leg. And you don't give up a 1st for a 1 year sub. I feel real bad for Teddy. There's no guarantee he'll ever be the same, and the Vikings will have to weigh their options at QB.

That is just terrible luck for Teddy. I wish him the best in recovery. That being said, I don't think it would matter much if he is able to get back on the field that early because Bradford did enough to justify keeping as the starter and I can't imagine Bridgewater would be close to his full potential or athleticism after such a horrific injury. He wouldn't likely be traded either because nobody would want to gamble before seeing him get back out there and prove he can still play at a similar level.

Talk about irony....Sam gets a job on a team with a QB that may be injury prone...

If Teddy ever plays again is a miracle of modern medicine. I doubt Sam loses this offense to Teddy. He's the more talented thrower.
