Report: Aaron Rodgers wants to play in 2025, but not for the Jets

It could be the next shot in the cold war turned hot between the Jets and quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Days after reports emerged that Jets owner Woody Johnson suggested benching Rodgers after a Week 4 loss to the Broncos, Dianna Russini of TheAthletic.com reports that Rodgers, who said 10 days ago that he wants to play in 2025, does not want to play for the Jets in 2025.

And so the foundation is fully in place for Rodgers’s two-pronged, post-bye media blitz. Pat McAfee and A.J. Hawk will ask Rodgers about it on Tuesday. Rodgers will grumble and mumble about media leaks before possibly saying something substantive on the question of whether he wants to keep playing for the Jets, in the future or now. Then, on Wednesday, he’ll have his usual press conference, where he might (or might not) be asked pointed and repeated questions about recent developments and reports.

Regardless, it’s becoming more and more clear that it’s over for the Jets and Rodgers. The only remaining question is whether he’ll be placed on injured reserve, whether he’ll be benched, whether he’ll play out the string, and whether he’ll be cut.

With the Giants releasing Daniel Jones, Rodgers might want the same thing — if they’re thinking about benching him. Maybe, in what would be his final act as de facto G.M., Rodgers can get receiver Davante Adams released too.

How is it two total dicks managed to play for the Packers and the Jets? They are mirror images of each other. Both were excellent QBs on excellent teams and managed to win just 1 Superbowl each. They both played longer than their talents warranted. And their narcissistic need to be the center of attention made them more relevant than their play did. If I were the Jets I'd say, "Fuck you. We're not cutting you so you can stay in the news. We're out the same amoumt of money either way so go start a fucking podcast and leave the NFL alone!"

I doubt McVay would want Kaaron anywhere near the Rams.

I think he still holds a grudge against them for drafting Smith over him

Then where would he like to play if it was served on a Silver Platter. The Raiders ? There in Vegas baby.

You think he wants to play in the cold ? Who really wants his sorry old azz anyways.

Have seen every one of Rodgers' snap this year, and see regression but he is still an NFL starting-quarterback ... and a major asshole.

Could see him in San Francisco for one year, if the Niners fall-short again and they're not sure about Purdy. Purdy may want an extension before next season but the 49ers can wait as 2025 is still just his fourth year. The pressure is going to continue to mount if they continue to miss-out on a Lombardi; and the Niners could try to go with both Rodgers and Purdy for 2025.

Could also see Minnesota. J.J. McCarthy is the Vikings' future but he will only be 22 next season, and coming-off an injury. The Vikings are built to win now; and might bring-in Rodgers ... for one season ... to give them an option. Could see Rodgers liking the idea of returning to the NFC North, and trying to stick-it to the Packers.

Would also be entertaining because of the Brett Favre comparison. Pushed-out of Green Bay for a younger, talented QB ... go to the NY Jets where things initially look great but then things fall-apart in a nano-second. Return to the NFC North and play for a hated rival in the Vikings. That sounds like fun!

Neither San Fran, nor Minnesota would have to guarantee Rodgers the starting spot from Day 1.
