The part about Delpino starts about half way through, maybe a hair more. Oddly enough, I know nothing about him. My dad is a huge Rams fan that definitely watched during that era, but never mentioned him.

Delpino was a good back on a good team. I can't believe that team didn't reach a Superbowl. Before Everett got gun shy he was really slinging it. Flipper was a stud. It brings back some good memories. It wasn't long after that when Georgia started ruining things.

I remember for a while there we'd release players and they consistently became stars on their successive teams. It was really frustrating.

Didn't Delpino start as an FB and later after having a much smaller role took over RB1 duties. He ran very hard and had a couple real solid seasons. Caught the ball well too

Played WR at Missouri before being converted to running back, that is why he was a gifted receiver out of the backfield. Loved Robert Delpino he was an asset for the Los Angeles Rams, week in and week out.

Yep. He was a good one. A real bruiser but with good hands.

Loved him.
I was just thinking back then, how tough it was to get Ram information, especially in the offseason. I remember going to public & the University Library just so I could read the L.A. Times and the Los Angeles Herald Examiner (until 1989) just to get sports information considering I rooted for all the LA Teams.

Now, we have everything at our fingertips although we have to sift through the information for accuracy. I remember reading an article after they drafted Delpino and his receiving skills, being a former WR. Funny part is the information I garnered from those newspapers I felt were more accurate.

It was hard to get info. I used to buy the Orlando Sentinel and the Daytona Beach News Journal on Monday mornings just to make sure I got anything I could get on the Rams. Then on Tuesday I'd but the USA Today because their stuff came out a day later.

Man that sucked.

I remember Madden would talk about him as another offensive skill player you had to worry about when they were running the Ernie Zampese scheme. He would say there are all these brush fires that keep springing up. RIP Coach.

I think we as Ram fans hold a special place in our hearts for past players and this might be one of those times we remember with our hearts as well. He only had one stand out year and it wasn't for a SB contending Ram team. They were 6-10.

Yup.
USA today would do a small paragraph on every NFL team. I would buy it every week.

I would also buy The Sporting News every Thursday. They would also have small reports on every team.

It was tough feeding my Rams addiction in those days.

Rams were like a farm team…: Sean Gilbert, Jerome Bettis, Ron Jaworski, etc etc

When I was a teen living on the East coast in the early 80s, every Monday my grandpa would cut out the story about the Rams' game from the LA Times, and send it to me via snail mail.

Did exactly the same things.

USA Toady's Monday paper was a must because it had a more detailed box-score.

My first subscription was at fourteen years of age, and to Pro Football Weekly.
