Snead: “We’ll offer you a 6th rounder...”

Hard to imagine Rams’interest in Mack was ever that serious. To retain AD, Rams simply couldnt afford Mack.

Teams always interested in everything, but that doesn’t qualify as “in the mix.”

I think the Rams are just screwing with the league. They could not have gotten a deal done that paid him more than AD.

Here's the Rams pitch to Mack- We can't give you a raise, in fact, if you could take a paycut it would help. What we can do is offer you a tremendous shot at a Superbowl, Strahan's sack record, and unrestricted free agency after obliterating the record books.

Oh. And a week one matchup against the Raiders. Just think it over.

Could have got rid of Barron coupled with the cap space they got from restructures to make it work this year. But we’d basically have no cap space the next couple years to do anything. Would still have been worth it as long as the team stayed healthy but that’s no guarantee. That’s where the cap gambling pays off or screws you.

In this theoretical situation, I'm thinking both Donald and Mack suffering career ending injuries in 2018 might have broken the salary cap.

A wild idea, but this just isn't the NBA -- too many cap restrictions for something like that to happen here. There's 53 guys on a NFL team, they can't all be all-pros (with all-pro salaries). Macks contact would've had to play second fiddle to ADs and I don't think he'd go for that, even for the chance to be on a dream team D. He'd have wanted his guaranteed $ today, not 6 months from now.

Yeah, I'm thinking in 2020 when Goff's salary goes way up, the Rams would have Donald and Mack and Goff and Gurley and Cooks and a bunch of 6th rounders for depth.
