Rams were always doing this or that since McVay took over in this 49er scenario

Meaning it was about establishing Goff as the QB. Winning a SB. Getting Stafford. It was never about beating the 9ers.
Now it is.
I feel strongly that the Rams are about to open up a can of 49er WHOOPASS.

It always drove me nuts as a 55 years long Rams fan that these new Rams players and coaches didn’t seem to get that the 49ers were a rival more hated than any other. They seems to approach 49er week the same as any other week, then appeared caught off guard by how intense the 49ers were playing us.

I disagree. If you watched and listened to AD, Ramsey, McVay and others during Niners weeks, they always talk about how much they hate them. In 2021, they were upset we lost the last regular season game against them and wanted a playoff rematch.

In recent history, our O line was undersized and bullied by the Niners, investing in Avila and creating the biggest O line we’ve had in McVays tenure is a response to that.

You are right and you are wrong imo. You are right in that it was the big picture first. But, I do think McVay and company really did want to beat the Niners over the years. Jourdan said McVay regrets not playing his starters in that meaningless end of the season game a few year ago.

It was always about winning the division, which included beating the whiners. The only bad part is since 2019 they've obviously had a tough time at it.

Heck even in the 80s at least the Rams managed a split in some years. I remember laughing and cheering when we beat the snot out of them on a Sunday night in 1988.

To me.. this is a survival and growth year.

If this rookie class is outstanding as it looks after one week.. and if some of last year's class really steps up... they can be REALLY aggressive this offseason. They have the possibility of opening up something like 95 million dollars.. and have almost all of their draft picks and future draft picks.

This rookie class could be transformative.. I'm still looking forward to seeing Ochuan Mathis when he gets off IR and whether Davis Allen can play.

Turner, Avila, Young and Nakua are friggen home runs if they can stay close to their current path. Tomlinson, Evans, Mathis, Hampton, Allen.. these are all guys who've shown something.

The future is looking a lot brighter and a lot closer to me than many think and would include Donald, Kupp and Stafford in key roles.

I do wonder if that's the plan, or if they're looking at a more complete reset with a new QB.

I mean.. Wouldn't the Falcons give up at LEAST a first and second if Stafford has an excellent, healthy year? A Bulldog? Because Ridder is getting them nowhere, imo.

I think they will try to do this as seamlessly as possible. A healthy Stafford opens the window for championship much quicker. If this year is good and they are agressive like we think they will be next off season, a reset at QB makes no sense because it just delays the window and you never know if they will work out. I will be very disappointed if they trade Stafford before the end of next year or even the year after if we don't have the next QB in house.

I absolutely agree with that. When they had Avila facing off with Donald in camps it was clear to me they were prepping him to face Hargrave who is very much like AD. The fact they changed the way the secondary plays is another indication of how they want to be more physical. Only the DL continues to play soft like Morris loves. He talks tough shit but coaches otherwise.

If they don't pressure Purdy the Rams have no chance in this game. C'mon man dial up the pressure. Play on their side of the LOS on early downs putting them behind the sticks. The Niner offense thrives on a strong run game, and Purdy's short to medium range quick passes.

They need to do two things defensively to beat the Niners. McCaffery will get his yards, but they can't let him beat them. Secondly they must pressure Purdy consistently. Offensively they must score early and not let up. I think the Rams will have to score 35 to have a chance to win.

This will be an interesting game. SF's offense is predicated on run pass balance. The weakness if any on their team is their secondary. If the OL can give Stafford time he can carve them up even without Kupp. I wouldn't be surprised to see Robinson play a significant number of snaps. The Ram offense is primarily a passing offense. This is why the Rams only need to run enough to keep the Niner defense honest. It's also why I think the Rams have a chance to pull off the upset here. The Rams are strongest going against the weakest part of their defense.

Stafford must have time and he must not throw INTs. Give Matt time and if he doesn't throw INTs IMO the Rams steal a win tomorrow.

That's the conundrum; they always scheme to get the ball out quickly to neutralize any pass rush. Shanahan has been really good at neutralizing and keeping plays away from AD also. I hope we've taken moving him around and disguising where he's coming from up a notch.
