Rams Vs. Dallas Cowboys: QB Jared Goff Got Less Playing Time Than QB Case Keenum

Here’s the snap counts from Saturday’s game and what they mean.

So yes, ultimately, rookie franchise QB Jared Goff played one less snap than starting QB Case Keenum. With Los Angeles Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher indicating he’d like to get some first-team work for Goff, we’ll have to see if that changes. That makes for a tough situation in the preseason games, though.

Normally, you can pull your entire-first team entirely. Goff, though, could certainly use more snaps to prepare for Week 1 when he’ll hopefully be the starting QB as the Rams head north to take on the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football. Does that mean he gets the playing time with the second string offense as he did on Saturday? How does Case Keenum factor in moving forward for playing time in-game? Does that disrupt his ability to form any chemistry or consistent timing with his key targets including the rookie crop led by TE Tyler Higbee and WR Pharoh Cooper?

And with those offensive linemen and wide receivers at the top of this sheet, let’s see how things stack up in Week 2 to see what we need to take away. On this alone, it’s hard to really break down except that clearly the staff needed to get those guys snaps to see where they go on the depth chart right now, not really for the 53-man.

Michael Brockers DT 8 14.04%
Josh Forrest LB 4 7.02%
Cory Littleton LB 2 3.51%
Nic Grigsby LB 1 1.75%

Again, the takeaway at the top is that the coaches are trying to sort out the CB and DL depth chart more than anything, not necessarily that they “like” those guys.

And figuring out how to sort out the linebackers could just be a function of deciding whether or not Bryce Hager and Cameron Lynch are legit backup linebacking options and not just special teams contributors. The real indicator you know this was a test for those two? Not just how much they played, but look at 2016 NFL Draft sixth-round pick Josh Forrest and UDFAs Cory Littleton and Nic Grigsby. From where they’re sitting, their playing time likely increases over the next two games, but it’ll honestly be too late for LB depth.

The audition just took place.

It through me a little bit because I forgot the Rams signed Safety Rohan Gaines wears the same number as Aaron Green (36) and when I was watching the game again for a minute I thought E.J. Gaines actually played.

Interesting, I don't remember seeing Rhaney in at all let alone at Center and Kush I thought played Center. But that's a lot of snaps devoted to centers clearly some of these snaps were at Guard.

Rhaney played the whole second half and IMO was his best game as a Ram....Miscast as a guard, he's a center only.

Yeah oldschool, I'm not sure how reliable that list is. Says Hayes played but I never saw him in there. the first couple of series the d was in it was Simms at RDE.

This list is way too inaccurate. Kush DID take snaps at C. Folkerts didn't take that many snaps. And according to this list, Matt Longacre didn't even play.

I'ma have to get yall some glasses....or, come and drink with yall to slow you down. LOL!!!
I don't remember seeing Rhaney in at all let alone at Center and Kush I thought played Center.
Rhaney played center, and looked good. Kush started, well played center first then moved to guard. Folkerts was at guard then moved to center....

My ramdom thoughts...Hagar & Lynch looked way in over their heads...Hagar never attacked the LOS...Lynch looked lost...Reminded me of Ray Ray & Bates...like they didn't know what the hell they were doing...On the kickoff return, they both got blocked, stayed on their blocks, as the runner flew by...thought they were auditioning for the line...On that type of situation, you'd like them to become battering rams, wedge busters...Major fail...I'm ready to see, Chubb, FORREST, and Littleton....Josh forrest showed me something...Overall, defense needs to bring some intensity...Watch any playoff contending team this pre-season, they play with a fire...The hitting...We didn't have that...Not from backup linebackers...D-Line..Westbrooks is ready to play...Start/rotate/something...Hayes & Sims...were they coasting? Or when C Long left, someone stole they're favorite toy...Surprised by the lack of intensity from those too. I won't go into depth on the corners...I will say, I'm ready to give Sensabaugh a chance...Joyner, meh, not a starter...not the slot corner I expected...If we drafted today...secondary is my 2nd round pick....specifically a serious corner(click on corner ;))..pick one

Offense....the lines looked better on second viewing...they looked good on the first looksie too...Competition breeds competitive play. Rhaney...just wow...G-Rob...super wow!! Wichman & Saffold = solid...why, cause Folkerts, Kush, and even Swindle...Hell Donnall..those guys wanna make the team...Some wanna start...Still wondering about Barnes...Reynolds....the quick way to get on my shit list is to let the QB get hit. That's why some holds are acceptable...Jake Long did it with Sam, Reynolds did it with Goff...WR's...that's why camp reports matter, and sometimes don't....Maybe the time off hurt Cooper..maybe...in a game, where opportunities are limited, one rep or play can change your career. The udfa's know this..So should vets & drafted rookies....Drops hurt us right? 3rd downs are our weakness...So what do we see, Tavon drops one on 3rd down...Cooper drops a huge gainer...Thomas dropped, well he may have dropped every target but ONE....I'll leave it at that...remember what I said about competition..McRoberts...my biggest question mark...not sure what his talent level is...so many different reports...up & down game...he did settle down...Williams...why no targets for this beast? One...maybe two??? Spruce...clutch is huge with me...ypc is big too...Quick & Britt looked like vets...they did what they were supposed to do... Higbee, quiet just goes about his business. Looks like the real deal. Hemingway can run. I kinda like Justice Cunningham, making it hard to cut this guy, plus HE'S a real special teamer...check out the explosions when he hits people, busts wedges.Kendricks did what vets are SUPPOSED to do...

With all the above, You ARE supposed to shine versus 3rd teamers...those are future cuts...If you don't you're a future cut...Now, what can you do vs starters? What are you gonna do in pre-season game 3? If you make it that far. Guys that played a lot are probably big question marks in the coaches eyes...Mine too after watching some of them...Coty Sensabaugh is a player that kinda holds the keys to our success...Can he still improve, or is this what he is????? The more of the game I watched....Something about Joyner...JAG...I'd rather Coty get better, and EJ kick into the slot on passing downs, Coty come in, and go out wide...Get well soon EJ Gaines, we miss you...

Rhaney played center, and looked good. Kush started, well played center first then moved to guard. Folkerts was at guard then moved to center....

Barnes started at center followed by Kush then Rhaney, Folkerts never played center played LG with the 2nd and third group and I have reviewed the game several times. Kush is 60 Folkerts 67.Kush started the 2nd half for one series on the touchdown to Reynolds then Rhaney played center the rest of the game....The unit that was on the field for the final two touchdowns were:

LT...Pace Murphy
LG...Brian Folkerts
C...Demetrius Rhaney
RG...David Arkin
RT...Jordan Swindle

you are correct...I noticed he was listed as a center also...got a little confused...I did think Kush came out rather quickly and Folkerts played a few downs at center...But I mostly saw Rhaney there...after Kush...
