Rams update: Britt's two-year contract worth $9.15 million

PHOENIX • Kenny Britt's new contract with the Rams has been posted with the league, and it calls for the veteran wide receiver to make $9.15 million over two years — a far cry from the $14 million originally reported by some.

Britt's base salary of $2.55 million in 2015 is guaranteed. He also gets a $1.5 million roster bonus and a $250,000 workout bonus — which is a big amount as workout bonuses go. That adds up to a salary cap count of $4.3 million in 2015.

In 2016, Britt receives a $3.6 million base salary, a $1 million roster bonus, and another $250,000 workout bonus. That adds up to a $4.85 million cap count for '16.

Britt can void the contract after the 2015 season, but that's based on what has been described as a very high performance level this coming season. All incentives in the contract start above his performance levels in 2014, when he caught a career-high 48 passes for a team-high 748 yards. He averaged 15.6 yards per catch and scored three touchdowns.

Technically, Britt could reach $14 million in compensation, but he would have to post back-to-back 1,000-yards receiving seasons among other things.

According to the NFL Players Association, the Rams have just over $11 million in cap room left, and that includes the two-year, $2.2 million contract signed by offensive lineman Garrett Reynolds last week.

Reynolds, who played for Detroit last season, earns a base salary of $750,000 this year and gets a roster bonus of $250,000 for a 2015 cap count of $1 million.

In 2016, Reynolds earns a base salary of $1.05 million with a roster bonus of $150,000, for a cap count that year of $1.2 million.

Really cheap for a guy who can be a solid #1 WR. Hopefully Foles and Britt get a connection going early in OTAs and it carries over to the games. Britt came out of the game smoking Jenks and Tru and it set the tone for what he can do. Keep his head in a good place and Britt and put up 1000 yards and 7+ TDs.

Fair deal based on his stats last year, probably would have been more had our weak armed Qbs had not under thrown or flat out missed him.

The initially reported numbers -- $14 million over two years -- were obviously agent-inflated. Britt did get an initial $1.5 million roster bonus, and his 2015 base salary of $2.55 million is guaranteed, but the Rams can cut him or, more technically, "void" the deal next off season and encounter zero dead money for 2016. It's really a one-year, $4.05 million commitment. Mar 24 - 8:17 PM

Agree.
His numbers were actually better with Hill, 27 catches for 436 (61% catch rate) yards in 7 games vs 21 catches for 312 (57% catch rate) yards in 8 starts with Davis
While Britt's targets were minimal compared to the league leaders, they at least increased with Hill as well. Definitely would like to see him get the consistent double digit targets that the "other" guys get

That's pretty much what almost confirms, imo, WR isn't out of the realm of possibility if a big name is in our laps in the 1st or 2nd round.

So Britt's pretty much on a 1 year deal. Quick has 1 left on his rookie deal. Austin and Bailey have one year left after the 15 season.
