Rams Trade Rumor? Aaron Donald Seen With Dolphins Mike McDaniel

After an offseason trade of Jalen Ramsey to Miami, a tweet started speculation that Donald could soon be joining.

In this story:

LOS ANGELES RAMS
The Los Angeles Rams have had a rather busy offseason, an offseason that has so far been headlined by the release of Bobby Wagner and the trade of star Jalen Ramsey.

It was also another offseason filled with early speculation surrounding both Sean McVay and Aaron Donald, and the possible retirement of both. However, both confirmed their commitment to the Rams for the upcoming season.

Of course, even with the confirmation from both Donald and McVay, rumors will still swirl - especially after Donald was spotted at a UFC event hugging Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel.
This video would likely be nothing of note normally, but the Rams and Dolphins have already done business once this offseason in the aforementioned Jalen Ramsey trade.

As a result, there was immediate speculation that another potential trade was in the works between the two teams to send the superstar defensive tackle to Miami to join Ramsey.

Of course, even though the Rams traded Ramsey away this offseason does not mean they would be inclined to do so with Donald. Not only that, but a package for Donald would likely require a package that the Dolphins may not be able to afford.

Until Donald ultimately retires, whether that's after next season or three years down the road, there will be offseason rumors surrounding his future not only with the Rams but in the NFL.
For now, though, Donald is a Ram - and that likely will not be changing for the foreseeable future.

Im bored, stupid draft can’t come fast enough, it’s funny how seeing each other at the UFC Saturday night in Miami starts dumb ass rumors.

If AD is dealt, I'm betting Steelers (which should at least make @Angry Ram happy). It's his hometown, and honestly, I wouldn't blame him one bit if he wanted to spend his final year in his hometown; isn't that we all would want if we were players?

Not even plausible enough to be a “rumor.”

At this point, I don't know.

When the Rams traded Ramsey for a mid-#3 and a TE with one more career NFL reception than me, they got $5.6M of 2023 cap savings and took-on $19.6M of Dead-$.

According to Over-the-Cap, if Donald was traded AFTER June 1st, the Rams would get $13.5M of 2023 cap relief and take on $12.5M of Dead-$.

I'm guessing
that would also take Donald OFF the Rams' 2024 Books (as it did with Ramsey); and Donald carries a $34M cap hit to the Rams in 2024.

If the Rams can't compete, with Aaron Donald, in 2023 ... and I don't see them being good (Hope I Am Wrong) ... AND if they think Donald is just a year or two from retirement, wouldn't a post-June-trade make sense?

Like I said ... at this point ... I have no fucking idea.

Between AD and JJ Watt the Steelers would be paying 58 million dollars in salary. That makes no sense at all financially.

Rams could end up moving him if AD doesn't want to endure a rebuild. But the media is really stretching it here.

If the day comes when the Rams trade Donald, I’m confident that we won’t learn about it because he hugs another team’s HC at a wrestling match.

The time to trade all these guys was immediately after we won the super bowl. Not after we gave them all huge extensions.

First off hell to the no.

Secondly like with Stafford it doesn't make sense with the cap. It's a $26M cap hit this year or a $59.5M dead cap hit so do the math there.

Lastly trading him doesn't jive with the building for 2024 mantra that we see. Yes you would think Ramsey would have been the same but he didn't create dead cap like Stafford and AD would so he was the only one that made sense to trade. I don't think they want to move AR but they will if he wants to be moved even though that would create an extra $8M in dead cap.

Yup and Ramsey was the one that didn't get a big extension which is why he was traded.

I think the word was everyone was available for trade talks except Donald, who has a no trade clause, and Cupp.

OK but that's not really responsive to my post.

You posted that trading Donald was 'not even plausible'.

I suggested that, based upon what the Rams have done and are doing, it is plausible.

Trading AD only happens if he wants the trade and maybe if he’s only playing one more year. I still don’t believe the retirement rumors with AD - I think he plays like three more years.

Still, for shets & giggles purposes, why only Pitt? Lots of teams near his Pitt hometown that could make playing for them realistic under that made up scenario. Heck, let’s push the Jets if we are going to make things up - they are in win now mode once they get the lesser Aaron. Others like Cleveland, buffalo, NE, Baltimore, etc could work in this dream world and that’s only in AFC teams.

Then you were not responding to MY original post. I said the rumor (suggesting a deal with the Dolphins cove imminent) which was based in the clip from the wrestling match, was not plausible.

If the question is “could the Rams trade AD some day,” then…sure.
