Foxsports recently named Linehan as one of five NFL coordinators who will become head coaches in 2017, so his inclusion on the NFL's list shouldn't come as too big a surprise.

The Cowboys are third in yards, fourth in points, first in rushing and are 8-1 – all of this with rookies at quarterback and running back. Linehan has done a remarkable job devising a game plan and scheme that suits Dak Prescott’s game. While he’s certainly great in the pocket, Linehan has drawn up more moving pockets, more read-option, and simpler reads for Prescott than he would have with Tony Romo under center. He took a seemingly disastrous situation with Romo and Bryant injured yet again and turned Dallas into the league’s best team.

Linehan had a brief head coaching stint with the Rams from 2006-08, going 11-25 in that span. He rebounded by working with Matthew Stafford and the Lions for a few years before joining the Cowboys last year. Dallas would love to have him back in 2017, but he might choose to test the waters as a head coach somewhere.

He was the worst coach they've had in the last 20 years by a mile. Horrible HC.

A Great Coordinator does not make one a Great Head Coach. The Linehan experiment was so aweful it should never be tried again. I pity the team that thinks it's a good idea. The major problem isn't something that could ever be fixed.

Scott Linehan will never be a Head Coach again because he has a career record of 11-25 and if anyone went back and did some research of his stay in St. Louis, LInehan first of all is not comfotable in his own skin, stammers when he speaks and could not motivate a young marine at a brothel.

Very good x's & o's and coordinator, however, he's not a Head Coach, you know it, I know it and the American People know it!

No way they could sell Linehan to Ram fans again.

Another team, another fan base won't care what went down in St. Louis.

Yes they will, in no shape, way or form can you sell a guy with a career record of 11-25 to your fan base, no freaking way and I don't care if the fan base is on Mars.

Mike Mularkey was 7-25 his last two seasons before he came to Tennessee.

That is a very good point, hwoever, the reason the Titans kept Mularkey is because of his relationship with Mariotta. IMO, the only way Linehan gets another gig is as an interim coach and if he has a positive record, but it was easier to sell Mularkey because he was an internal hire, but the Titan fans were not happy about it.

No actually they won't. The argument is always the same, it was a learning experience. McD is a hot property at 11-17 and he did that at Denver ( a well regarded organization) and he was the guy who took Tebow in the first round (very controversial. Linehan came to what is considered a bad organization (heck many on this board rip on it), was saddled with Hasslett (who has a reputation as a snake around the league).

I realize that to you guys he left a bad taste, but it won't stop a guy from getting a second shot at head coach (note that it will NOT be the Rams though).

We touched the stove and burnt our hand. Why would you decide to touch the hot stove again?

Linehan didn't just fail here. His veterans mutinied on him. The man doesn't have the ability to a lead a team.

Linehan inherited a very good team with a lot of talent. Not all records are equal.

He got a team loaded with aging players and bloated contracts.....the Rams drafting from the Martz years left the team in serious trouble (yes they had Jackson, but not much else that had any life left in it).
