Will we need some of that comeback magic this year?

Here are the career numbers for the top 10 Ram QBs who have orchestrated 4th Quarter Comebacks and Game Winning Drives.

4th Quarter comeback means just that. A game winning drive is the last drive that puts the team ahead - not necessarily in the 4th quarter - but which wins the game. So in some cases a QB could have a GWD without a 4QC.

The top 10 are all in order based on their career comeback #s.

The last 5 QBs I just added on for comparison so there could be other Ram QBs that I haven't researched that may be a bit higher.

For each QB add post season #s in ( ) for their respective grand totals. Marc Bulger is in 1st place on Rams.

*dk blue font = with Rams.

1. Matthew Stafford

34 comebacks (2 post), 42 game-winning drives (3 post)
5 comebacks (2 post), 7 game-winning drives (3 post) * all in 2021 SB season

Baker's was like the craziest one that seemed like such a long shot. New QB and from their own 3 yard line GTFO. He has like 11 comeback/GWD numbers but only that one with Rams.

Everetts though... playoff OT winning pass was pretty insane too. Those last play no time left ones are incredible.

Though with Warner's SB winning one there was still time left. Same with his GW pass to Proehl.

Wild how Stafford had 3 straight postseason GWDs in that one SB run all in the 4th Quarter. May be a record.

Surprised to see that many by Bradford. The Rams didn’t win too many back then and even some of them were accomplished without the offense doing much.

Yeah Fitz had only 1 4QC and GWD with Rams but one of best if not the best ones. These 2 QBs only had 1 game with the Rams in either of these categories, with the majority of them with other teams. But you can see here they had a decent amount of them.

Ryan Fitzpatrick
13 comebacks, 18 game-winning drives
1 comeback, 1 game-winning drive

Trent Green

15 comebacks, 19 game-winning drives
0 comebacks, 1 game-winning drive

A game-winning drive by itself just means the QB led the team to a go ahead score during any part of the game and the opposing team didn't catch up. The comeback (4th qtr) means the team was behind (not tied) in the 4th and the QB led them on a scoring drive for the lead. So the QB gets awarded both a GWD and 4QC for the game.

Everett's comeback at New Orleans that year was incredible. The Saints D at the time was cruelly overstocked at LB in a 3-4 D and Everett had been hammered all game. They were down by two TD's with less than 3 minutes to go and only had a FG to their name. But that was the night he played pitch-and-catch with Flipper for the NFL single-game receiving yards record. He managed to drive them for two TD's in that final 3 minutes to tie the game (one to Flipper) and then drove them into position for the winning FG in OT (after a great D stop on 3rd down by Kevin Greene). I was watching that game at a sports bar and was so damn frustrated and ready to leave, but a nagging little voice in my head kept saying "stay." So glad I did, such a great memory of my time as a Rams fan.

It really was. Don't think Marc got as much love from the fans as he deserved, very good QB on his day.
Totally agree. Bulger was a very good QB until he just got the shit knocked out of him too many times. He’s the guy who had the job whilst Rome burned and the GSOT faded away.

Always had a ton of respect for him. He was tougher than he looked.

With the 17-16 win vs Seattle, Matthew Stafford has passed Brett Favre for game winning drives for 7th place on the list and Johnny Unitas for 4th quarter comebacks for 6th place on the list. Against Seattle it was his second GWD this year along with the win vs the Colts.

Matthew Stafford
35 comebacks (2 post), 44 game-winning drives (3 post)
5 comebacks (2 post), 7 game-winning drives (3 post) * all in 2021 SB season

..and that was after being almost split in half, on one of the dumbest plays you'll ever witness.

I can still picture Green on that play going high...
