Morning Ram-blings: On the Chargers and L.A.
By Nick Wagoner

http://espn.go.com/blog/st-louis-rams/post/_/id/17314/morning-ram-blings-on-the-chargers-and-l-a

PHOENIX -- We've spent most of this week discussing what's going on with the potential relocation of three teams to Los Angeles with the focus, of course, being on the St. Louis Rams.

Part of NFL executive Eric Grubman's job here was to update the owners on what's going on not only in Los Angeles but also in St. Louis, Oakland and San Diego. It's clear that of the three "current" NFL markets that St. Louis is furthest along. St. Louis stadium task force leaders Bob Blitz and Dave Peacock have done a terrific job of checking off boxes as much as they can.

The most important piece of the puzzle -- the financing -- still remains up in the air, however. But at least there's a general direction on where public funding could come from if that is to come to fruition.

Out in San Diego, the Chargers have been adamant about wanting something real and tangible after 14 years and for that to happen, they have to figure out the money for themselves. While St. Louis might theoretically have the option to extend current bonds on the Edward Jones Dome, there's no such option for the Chargers.

So it was that here in Phoenix, ESPN Chargers reporter Eric Williams spoke with owner Dean Spanos on the topic Tuesday. Spanos told Williams that his focus has shifted to where the money will come from as the San Diego stadium task force hopes to have a plan in place by May 20.

Determining how things in Oakland, San Diego and St. Louis will play out is a difficult task at this point but it's safe to say the place that comes with a real, legitimate finance plan -- namely one that includes public money -- will put itself in strong position in the eyes of the NFL.
