After that first half Clowney played against the Rams last year it's no surprise that the Rams were interested. He can be a force. I posted a link that the Bills wanted to keep Hughes and it would take a big offer to get him. Les has to keep trying to get better players. At least they upgrade with Fowler.
Clowney probably doesn’t get the massive Mack/Donald contract he wants. Too many missed games and questions on how much he really wants to play vs get paid.
I'm glad the Rams didn't go hard after those other two options tbh. The cost would have been too high, and the team's chances of keeping either are low.
I definitely prefer the Fowler move if you have to go get a DE in-season. It sucks that we gave up a 3 and there's a good chance he'll hit FA, but if Fowler comes in and works hard both him and the Rams can benefit big time.

Man Clowney is a freak of nature, would have loved him in horns, but as others have suggested, the price to get him would have been huge, like a 1st and a 3rd or something. I'm not sure when his contract is up, but we would not have the $ to give him a big extension.
I think bottom line is that the coaches knew we needed help on the edge. I also believe that had we gotten clowney we would have flipped him for draft capital at the end of the season like what was reported was our plan if we landed Mack.
