With the recent news of Aaron Donald not joining the team at OTAs due to his contract status and Ogbonnia Okoronkwo breaking his foot, it doesn't end there. Mark Barron "had a couple of things in this offseason where he's recovering." according to Joe Curley.
This also now opens the door for an inside backer to step up in Barron's absence. We talked about how big of an opportunity the Okoronkwo injury leaves but you have a legitimate starting inside linebacker that is going to be out all of OTAs. That is going to be huge for players like fifth-round pick Micah Kiser, recent FA signing Ramik Wilson, priority UDFA Tegray Scales and last year's rotational/situational starters Cory Littleton and Bryce Hager.

The bigger news could be the fact that the status and possibility of releasing Mark Barron to save over $5 million was pitched during the year and rumored during the offseason. If Barron does not return from this and struggles to find his ground, the Rams do have depth in the backend of the room that could make a play for his spot. I personally see Tegray Scales as the one to watch in the inside backer group outside of Cory Littleton who I would pencil in to start.

Question is @jakebogen95, did the coaches already know that Barron would not be available until training camp? Because if they did, then the subject of releasing Barron is a moot point.

I still think it's a good possibility that we release Barron. Doing so, I'd certainly prefer us bringing in an ILB...like Navarro Bowman who has yet to sign with anyone...

even without that....we have a solid young group of LBs here... Kizer and Scales.... Littleton and Wilson
they would be playing between a solid veteran D-line and a solid veteran secondary....

it's going to be interesting watching how all this plays out..

It's the same things that kept him out of a few games towards the end of last year. He had surgery on that shoulder back in February. We know these guys bring guys back slowly with limited practice coming off injuries.

Would every one quit beating the drums for Navarrow Bowman! He is not what he was, as he is now lousy against the pass, both in rushing the QB, and in dropping back in coverage. Which means, if the opposition's offense is not rushing the football up the middle he's useless, as he no longer has the wheels. There's a good reason no one has signed him yet.

Isn't Baron dealing with some form of Achilles issue too?

I'm not too concerned with Barron missing OTA's, he's a VET that will be able to just step in during training camp, I'd rather he get 100% fit / rehabbed than to do damage during OTA's - I'd rather see AD99 turn up to be honest, because I hate this stalemate with the contract, I hope this season doesn't start like last year's with AD99 holding out again.

A couple of questions for you guys:
  1. Is Barron's injury the reason we picked up Wilson?
  2. Can Kiser muscle his way up the depth chart to start?

This is the first I've heard about this :-/ I had big hopes for this guy.

FREAKING HORRIBLE reporting on Barron??

Make it seem like when you say WE talked about it , it was a quote from coach ?
( Barron was out there today. He has had a couple things going, where he is recovering from. WE are going to be smart with MARK!! Don’t expect him to compete in OTA’s, but he WILL be out there at some point !!! )

I don’t know where McVay has any doubt about Mark Barron?? You can talk about it to Regray all you want. Dude was not even drafted ??? Good luck making this squad ??
Practice squad at best!! IMO ?

—This is NOT a regular Rams team !!!
THIS MAYBE one of The BEST RAM Teams ever !!! We can get into this one !!!!

WHO is WE ??? It’s WE not ME !!!!

McVay talks about injuries & being smart with the veterans. Rams are going to be smart during OTA’s, like Matt Longacre coming off his back injury.

FIRST OFF!!! I believe McVay said & has said that CORY LITTLETON did an excellent job Starting for Mark Barron against Tennessee ??

Bryce Hagar did well against Arizona .m(OTree)
Wilson(mlb)is a NFL player that did well in KC.

Samson Ebukham - did a good job from the outside spot for Barwin.

How many LB’s will get cut ??
— my guess is Wilson,Hager & Fisher compete for inside lb spot vacated by Ogletree.

Littleton,Scales,T.Howard back up Barron w/Scales gone because of special team play by Howard.

Price & Sickles get extra reps form Longacre.

Obo - yes on foot.

Wilson I think competes with Hager & yes M. Fiser will get his chance at MLB ( head set )

Littleton will get the 1st team Reps with Barron out of OTA’s , which leaves that MLB spot to one of those 3

Ejuan Price is the forgotten man!! He impressed me last season.

I think scales will get extra reps. He has been given ever opportunity to succeed with the Rams. If Tegray is so great he will not be given any excuses that he didn’t get his chance.

Injuries play a big part of things. Mark Barron’s injuries just didn’t happen. He was playing through them. He is a first round talent & is getting paid because of it.

May be as simple here as the Rams Org. knows well the health & cost situation on Mark Barron....decided to sign a 2 season starter from KC who played the same position as Mark {weak side interior LB'ing post}. They have a developing UDFA LB'er Cory Littleton who started for & back up Mark Barron last season & showcased play-making talents. If that were not enough the Rams drafted this past April another weak-side interior LB'er named Travin Howard . ;)

Does anyone here see any reason to panic or rush Mark back into the fray early? Could this really be a solid plan on the behalf of this outstanding LB'er? Over the second half of the season Barron was Unhealthy & unable to play as well as the past wear & tear had taken it toll on this smaller than normal inside Lb'er.

Appears to me that the Rams Org is well prepared to let Mark Barron get fully healthy They have the ILB'er here that can carry the load early for Barron. Then unlike last season Barron can be ready to start & lead this Ram defense into the playoffs & right to a SB win!...even if that means he will not get on the field as early as we want.

Might want to remember that Snead went out & sought & traded for this former number 1 top 10 drafted defensive star (who experienced many NCAA Championship teams).Snead loves what Barron has to offer. Snead was here when Barron got his new big contract & I would bet that Wade feels very close to Snead on this issue too....just get this man healthy however long that takes!

THIS MAYBE one of The BEST RAM Teams ever !!!
Slow your roll....we haven't played a GAME yet. LOLOLOL

Some genius once said, Barron probably is a little lite to last as an ILB...and should be moved back to SS....who was that???? Who could it be?????

I remember looking at practice...and thinking, if I was cleated or stepped on by that mass of bodies...I'd be down for a year...you can't imagine the size of these players....unless you see them up close...it's why I place value on speed...if you can move that fast...at that size....you're special. My point, If Oko...Obo...was stepped on by say, a Mike Brockers....I can see a foot breaking.

This really is nothing new with Barron. We knew he had shoulder surgery and had other health issues last year. I questioned his healthy before the surgery which created a big debate. If the Rams feel he will be ready before the season it's hard to question that at this time. It's not time to panic or start the cut Barron posts.

I don't know why we don't get more injury details during the off season. Could be they simply like to keep things in house. Could be they don't want to tip their hand on pickups or trades. This Rams management group doesn't tip their hand in any event so I see a remote possibility that this is more serious and could be addressed appropriately. For right it's wait and see.

Well we can say what we want !!

I know I put my money where my month was on Nick Foles when he was as well on Case Keenum. I didn’t on Jared Goff, but only because of circumstances. If I was by myself I would have been in !!

That all said, if you look at The Rams right now ? You will see at least 7 top 100 players.
That is not including some of the depth as well.

Look back at the Falcons game when Brockers got hurt.Donald ran into his him pulling his knee back. The force these big guys play at is amazing. Brockers looks tolled out right now !! He is ready to play DE!!

I don’t think it’s as much as Snead as it is Wade & Barry !! Williams really loved his Bounty Gate style !! I don’t think there is a NFL player who has taken out as many QB’s as Barron, now add Suh !!!

I think Wilson is here to play MLB in place of Ogletree. I don’t see Bryce Hager holding on to the starting spot!!

I do like Fiser !! I think the MLB position is the most interesting position that is up for grabs. That is a leadership position. Who calls the Plays in D ??

No one talks much about all the QB’s Mark Barron has put out of games. He plays hard.

Carson Wentz being one of them. Maybe he helped the Easley win a Super Bowl.
