Rams Future and St. Louis Stadium Situation: Part 2
Shane Gray posted on November 24, 2014 10:13
*This is the second of a three-part series breaking down the Rams' future and the current stadium situation. Read part one here.

As most of those reading this are probably aware, the Rams future in St. Louis -- or lack thereof -- is intricately connected to what takes place going forward on the stadium front. In part one of this three part series, I briefly looked at rumors of a Rams sale, stadium point man Dave Peacock, the possible extension of dome bonds to help fund a new facility and how a transformative, state-of-the-art venue/multipurpose development downtown could be a win-win solution for the Gateway City and the greater region.

Buck at Bat

Quite honestly, it was more than just a little refreshing to watch St. Louis native and big game NFL and MLB sports announcer Joe Buck go to bat for his city and its fans with boldness and passion in relation to the Rams future.
In case you missed Buck's candid Rams-related thoughts, he first sat down with Martin Kilcoyne of Fox 2 for this interesting discussion. Days later, Buck added even more to the conversation in an interview with CBS Sports 920 and InsideSTL's The Morning After Show.

While Buck admits that he has not familiarized himself with NFL bylaws and other fine details regarding potential franchise relocation{s}, he is obviously someone who is well connected with the league after being a part of its television broadcasts for the past 20 years.

With that understood, many locals were more than just a little concerned at hearing Buck convey that powerful people in the NFL believe that Rams owner Stan Kroenke wants to move the organization to Los Angeles. Of course, we do not know if these unnamed individuals are simply making assumptions based upon personal beliefs, hearsay and/or reports of Kroenke exploring the market, or if there is indeed bona-fide evidence to support such an assertion.

Either way, Buck has rung the bell in St. Louis with hopes that others with power and a public platform will help him carry the torch during the quest for a new venue and the retention of this city's NFL franchise.

Buck has spoken up, but when will we hear from the likes of Bob Costas, Dan Dierdorf, Nelly, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Ozzie Smith and others of their ilk? When will some of Buck's St. Louis brethren join him in going to bat for their hometown team?

If St. Louis based worldwide public relations firm FleishmannHillard is smart with their coming PR efforts in regard to retaining the Rams, they will make good use of the individuals above and also utilize fellow famous St. Louisans such as Cedric the Entertainer, Akon, Randy Orton and John Goodman.

There is obviously a long way to go in regard to an ultimate resolution in regard to the Rams, the NFL and St. Louis, but Buck was right to call out Kroenke, to stand up for St. Louis and to sound the proverbial alarm.
