Realize there are a couple other threads related to coaching changes but thought one specific to the Rams' Subtractions and (eventual) Additions was appropriate.

Seemed like the 2023 Rams benefited from a strong staff; and, now McVay needs to find quality replacements. Some may be internal promotions but then replacements to fill those lower-roles will be needed.

As of the final day in January, the Rams were down five coaches ... four of whom held pretty significant roles ... and a couple more could be headed out-the-door.

The losses thus far are:
Defensive Coordinator Raheem Morris ... Atlanta Head Coach
Pass-game Coordinator Zac Robinson ... Atlanta OC
Assistant Head Coach Jimmy Lake ... Atlanta DC
DL-coach/Run-Game-Coordinator Eric Henderson ... USC co-DC
Assistant Special Teams Coach Jeremy Springer ... New England ST-Coordinator

Brandon Staley's name has been mentioned for the DC role, and was to interview today. Green Bay was reported to be interested in Staley but filled thier DC spot with a college coach (Jeff Hafley). Baltimore's DB-coach Dennard Wilson was also mentioned to be a Rams' interview candidate but he is an option to replace Mike Macdonald in Baltimore, with Macdonald getting the Seattle HC job.

With the Rams under the 2024 cap, they do not need to release or restructure players prior to March 13th (start of the League Year and Free Agency, although the two-day negotiating-window begins on the 11th).

Putting together a strong coaching staff seems like the #1 Priority for the next six weeks.

Nice write up! Might be a good idea too to keep an eye on Munchack. Does he stay on as a consultant. Word from Steelers is he's not going there.

Wink Martindale??
Martindale has enjoyed NFL success but I have not read his name as one of the DC candidates McVay would interview. The list I have seen is ... Brandon Staley, Dennard Wilson, Aden Durde and Ron Rivera; plus in-house coaches Aubrey Pleasant and Chris Shula. Wilson is headed to Tennessee.

No way I'd ever trust a man who calls himself "Wink". ;)

Wtf is going on? Now the Dolphins are interviewing Chris Shula for the DC position. Fuck all these teams. Go uptrain your own fuckin coaches. Honestly should be picks given to teams who's coaching staff is poached after a certain number of coaches get hired away. So tired of reading us constantly losing coaches every damn year. Ok, rant over hahahaha

I and a lot of us agree but it's better than hoping McVay would fire half the staff cause they suck. Gets real old though every year the same thing.

I don't see Martindale as a possibility. The issues in NY plus he runs a very flawed scheme.

I don't think we would have as much of a problem if we promoted from within, like you say they should as well.

I agree. There should picks awarded after losing more than two coaches. Maybe a third round pick for each coach above 2.

Haven't you been paying attention?!? Didn't you see all those 6th round picks we've gotten these last few years for losing coaches?

Imagine how different the last few years could have been with better coaching continuity...

Exactly, its crazy when you think about how many coaches have come and gone under McVay. Its gotta be a record amount at this point :dizzy:

Continuity is a thing… but every successful team deals with coaching staff turnover.

9ers & Chiefs both had big losses last year.

I have faith in McVay.

I will say that the amount of turnover possibly pushes them to hire an experienced DC… so, Staley & maybe even Rivera could have an advantage.

This is why a Staley DC could make sense
Like Spagnolo, he's likely not a HC ever again, at least not in the near future
And like Reid, McVay is the defacto OC anyways
Now if the Rams could somehow develop a Dave Toub at special teams, they'd really be cooking

Not a lot of certainty, this time of year, regarding coaching hires. However, the Rams may have held on to three assistant coaches in the past 24 hours. Definitely Chris Shula who was reported to be a DC-candidate for Miami before getting the promotion to the Rams' DC.

The other two assistants who had been reported to have been candidates for OC positions were Pass-Game-Specialist Jake Peetz (reported to be interviewed by Tampa), and TE-coach Nick Caley (reported to be interviewed by New England).

Both of those teams hired Offensive Coordinators in the past 24 hours ... Tampa is reportedly hiring Liam Coen; and New England hired Alex Van Pelt. Hopefully, these hirings mean both Peetz and Caley return.

In my opinion, the reality is that even the most die-hard Rams' fans can only know so much about individual coaches ... how good and effective they are; and how they are perceived by the players they coach. I believe the Rams' Coaching Staff did an excellent job in 2023, so I would like to see as much of the staff, as possible, return in 2024.
