Much work lies ahead. [hil]The Rams emerged from this week with eight fewer players on their roster than the average for the other 31 teams.[/hil] Using free agency to address holes at outside linebacker and left guard would provide flexibility heading into the draft. The Rams still need a backup quarterback as well. Bradford is the only QB on the roster. It's looking like the team is serious about bringing back right tackle Jason Smith despite injury concerns and a fat contract that will presumably require adjustment.

The situation now is far better than it was in 2009.

Red-bold = need.

CB Finnegan ( + Burney, Fletcher?, Gordy, Hood, Jackson, Johnson, King, Murphy, Ness, Smith)
Mikell Stewart
OLBLaurenaitis OLB
Quinn Langford DT Long (+ Sims; & Cudgo, Gibson, Henderson)

Saffold OG Wells Dahl (?Smith?/?OT?) (+ young prospects only: Barnes, Mattison, Hughes...Ojinnaka)
TE 1..Mulligan, Big Mike
TE 2: Kendricks
Bradford 2nd QB
WR Amendola, Salas...Smith?, Pettis?, Alexander?
(FB: Miller)
Jackson, 2nd RB

Note: out of the needs listed probably at least 2 will be guys signed in free agency: 1 of the OLBs, the #2 qb

That leaves this for the draft:

PRIMARY NEED (random o'rder): CB?, OLB, DT, OG, OT?, WR
DEPTH: TE1, #2RB

In 2009, before the off-season started, the Rams had far less. I include only players who made it at least through 2010:

CB Bartell (+ nickel)
Atogwe SS
OLB MLB OLB

Hall DT DT Long

LOT Bell OC OG OT
TE
QB
WR WR (+ 3rd WR)
FB

Jackson (+ 2nd RB)
