I know. The point I was making about Dotson was the exact same point @OldSchool was making about Witherspoon. He looked great early on but lately... not so much. There is a reason why teams let players go. I just don't want the Rams to pay excessive contracts to players after a few games only to cut them 2 years later and eat dead cap dollars. I remember a lot of posters were willing to lock up Alaric Jackson after a few games, and I was hopeful too. Look how that is turning out. And I saw someone mentioning that Noteboom can start at G or RT next year... really? Do we want to go thru that again next year?
From what I remember hearing about Dotson was that he was buried on the depth chart, not necessarily that his play declined. He was regarded as a decent to good player from what I remember hearing. HE performed better over there at pass pro and struggled in run pro. Its been the exact opposite here, except hes excelled at both. Sometimes a player just fits a system better.
As for Jackson, he played great until the Bengals game where he injured his groin. I don't think that's just a coincidence that his play declined after that. I personally think he is playing injured. I remember in 2019 alot of people were saying we needed to dump Hav bc his play declined that year. That would have been a big mistake. So I'll give a Jackson some leeway, but also think we need to draft a great LT out of College and let them compete.

As for noteboom, I agree with you. We've seen enough of him and need to trade him while we can.

I agree ... But ... Dotson may want to test free agency. How high should the Rams go with an offer?

There are plenty of guards that have contracts with Average-Annual-Values in excess of $10M-per-year.
Lets play the rest f the season out before we start handing out new contracts and overpaying for mediocrity (Higbee, $10M a year).

I don't disagree. However, the closer a player gets to free agency, the more likely he is to want to test it; and the more likely the team will lose that player.

Only one I want to resign absolutely is Dotson so far. I would like to have Witherspoon back but he's going to be 29 with a lot of injury history. He's never gotten a long term big contract so I fully expect him to go to the highest bidder and I don't blame him. So would depend on the market. I want him back but depends on long term cost.

Everyone else I could take or leave... mostly leave. Other than the RFAs which would all be worth bringing back for depth.
I don't want Witherspoon back unless he signs a cheap contract. We have the money to improve there.

He leads the Rams in (lowest) passer rating allowed (56.8), interceptions (2), fumble recoveries (2) and passes defended (6).

I think you are vastly underrating his performance.
I would say he's been lucky quite a few times. Missed throws by the QB have helped him out as he has been burned on a lot of plays. He has a bad injury history as well. I'd rather replace him than pay what it may take to keep him.

One thing in our favor - there seems to be quite a lot of very good guards in FA this off-season. Guys who have a better and longer track record than Dobson.

When I looked at the list on Spotrac, I did not think so.

Other than Detroit's Jonah Jackson and perhaps the Dolphins' Robert Hunt, I didn't see any guards under thirty that I liked as much as Kevin Dotson.

Just right there you have 3 guys who should be more in demand. Not sure whom else there is. But guard itself is already down the list of money priorities.

Maybe.

Not sure what kind of year Onwenu is having in New England but their O-Line has been heavily criticized.

The Patriots and Lions are both projected to have more 2024 cap space than the Rams. I would be surprised if Detroit lost Jackson. Hunt could hit free agency because Miami may not be in great shape.

From what I've heard, the Stealers kept putting Dotson at LEFT guard, and he said himself he wasn't comfortable on that side. Rams moved him back to his normal position, and he mysteriously plays better.

Keep Dotson, Witherspoon and go hard after Brian Burns and Saquon Barkley. Draft a LT, TE and C. I think we’ll be set after that.

If this is true, and Dotson continues to play well for the remainder of the season, I hope they can retain him.

I heard him say it on a youtube interview, and also some stealers fans were commenting that on an article about him doing well for the Rams. I would say that makes it true.

LOL Witherspoon a must keep. I think he and Fuller were our worst two DB's again today.
