I see 10 or 11 wins.
Thank goodness we're getting the Patriots at home.
Let's pound them into the turf at SoFi to break in the new stadium correctly.

I wouldn't mind that as the opening game.

Opening that stadium with a huge statement game would be awesome.

Brutal travel. Every last non division game is a full 3000 mile jaunt. The league is already East heavy.

East coast teams get it easy with travel miles. Bastards

It's not as though they are traveling by Walmart tractor trailers or even a 53 player hitch.;) Or perhaps a divergent double subduction zone can be created in the midwest to shorten travel? :giggle:

IMO a lot will depend upon when the Rams play back east. Games like Philly, Buffalo & DC hopefully will be in September or October. I can see a 12-4 or 11-5 easily. In reality I think this will be different team next year. I think we will see a whole different offense. It wouldn't surprise me if they drafted a FB as a lead blocker. Even if they don't I can see them using a blocking TE as a HB lead blocker.

I could see by replaying the run plays, this o-line usually attempted to gap block but executed it poorly. Their o-line coaching was terrible and their technique was many times non-existent. Kromer was IMO a huge factor in the poor run game performance of the o-line and he should get fired. They need to really coach up proper o-line scheming and technique this year. If they simply dump Blythe who has repeatedly proved he can't block if he has to move then they already have the o-line personnel to play a proper gap blocking scheme. It's not Gurley, it's the damn o-line not executing proper blocking technique and that is on Kromer.

I would love for them to use a lead blocker be it a FB or even better an H-B (which could be a TE). They could then use a power gap, or inside zone blocking scheme. Having a TE as a lead blocker also gives them another passing option, while forcing the defense to stay in their base. This would lead to a mis-match with a LB on someone like Everett.

Once the run game returns it will open up the passing game again. The new o-line proved they can be a good pass blocking unit (minus Blythe and Havenstein). I would offer Whitworth an o-line coaching position and promoting Andy Dickerson to head oline coach. Edwards can play LT until Noteboom is ready with Evans at RG and Brewer at RT. When Joe is ready to return Edwards can move to RT and Brewer can become the swing as he has experience at both OT and OG.

I also think part of the problem the Rams have is in the organizational structure. Kromer needs to go and McVay needs to hire a legitimate OC who may not design the scheme per se as that will stay with Sean, but he will have all the offensive position coaches reporting to him and he will insure that the scheme is implemented and executed. This will free up McVay to focus upon the offensive game plan design. He already has someone on the staff in Jedd Fisch who can fill that role as OC.

What this comes down to is not so much having to fill player position holes but to organizationally use the talent they have better. They have enough starting quality talent to be a SB contender again. They simply needed experience (which they now have) and better more focused coaching which they lack with Kromer.

Old.
Calm down on Kromer, dude.
He's the only reason that the line looked as good as it did.
They were going for an impossible offseason rebuild.
There is *virtually* no way you have a snowball's chance in hell of reworking the interior of your offensive line with two players lining up next to each other that have zero starting experience and expect it to work.
Especially early in the season.
They made some mistakes but I don't think it had anything to do with Kromer's ability to coach technique.
I think they would have had a much better chance of the offensive line working if they had slid Blythe over to Center which I think is his natural position.
I would have definitely gone with Noteboom at Left Guard but would have had an open audition at Right Guard.
I also think they should have given the unit some reps in preseason so at least they would have some tape to evaluate on these guys to help coach them up.

Technique?
That's definitely Kromer's strong point.

At the beginning of camp I would start with this lineup;
Noteboom
Corbett
Blythe
Edwards
Evans

See if you can trade Havenstein to increase our cap space and maybe pick up a future draft pick.

I hate that the league so overprotects Brady. If you're going to get a 15 yard penalty for breathing in him, might as well pile drive him into the turf and make the penalty worth it.

But the schedule looks like we can get 11 - 12 wins next season with some roster upgrades.

Pass protection is much easier to learn then run blocking which is probably why they picked it up quicker.

Every one of those players is now a young veteran with starts under their belt.
With a full camp with starters reps and some preseason games that should be a huge help.

Saying that, I'm not a hundred percent sure if Gurley is 100% where he was in 2018.
But Henderson will have more experience and another Camp under his belt.

I'm actually more worried in our ability to stop the run than I am in our ability to run the ball.

That's why I want a big ass nose tackle. I just don't know if there is anyone out there that is available and within our cap budget.

We absolutely need to draft a defensive tackle and run-stopping thumper linebacker, in my opinion.
A big ass nose tackle would definitely force a team to run more on the outside where our outside linebackers and defensive ends can be more involved instead of right up our gut.
