I had this game marked as a loss. I thought that Denver was a really talented team, and that the home field would be too much to overcome. But....there were some positives from last night.

The first and most obvious is.....without Puka and Myles - arguably the best offensive weapon and best defensive players in the NFL - we are still significantly better than a team who is almost completely healthy, at home and made the AFCCG last year winning 14 games. They also beat a Jaguars team last week who just beat the brakes off the Patriots.

It wasn't just the yardage, though I think that does tell a large portion of the story here for how much we dominated them - it was the refs, the plays we could have made (dropped INTs by Watson and Lake), our run defense - people will say whatever they will say and they'll have fun with this. But last night was the second game in a row where we showed we are more talented than everyone else.

Other good signs:

Mevis was perfect. Thank god after his miss last week....special teams is a disaster outside of him, but at least we have him

And the most important thing for me.....how we responded to the adversity. When Stafford threw the pick 6, I thought the game was over. Not only did the offense respond, but special teams kept the Broncos from getting past the 35 yard line on the ensuing kick return (have to squint hard to find positives for ST aside from Mevis), and then the defense made a game sealing pick that was stolen the refs. AND then the defense responded by stopping them AGAIN. Only to be aided by the refs again. We got them to 3rd down even after that before the culmination of everything got them to the 1cm line and any QB at that point can do what Nix did.

Davante, again. The WRs, overcoming the injuries on offense.....Kyren. Holy shit.

Concerns:

Evans and our coverage units. Kick return coverage kept them before the 35 so that was okay.....I'm wondering if it can be turned around by getting a new punter

Stafford was a little off, missing some open WRs again. But that's a tough place to play, they have a good defense and I imagine all that combines to mess with him. Not overly concerned here.

This was my prediction after the Niners debacle. 2 for 2 so far:

Giants - W
@Broncos - L
@Eagles - L
Bills - W
Cardinals - W
@Raiders - W
Chargers - W
@Commodes - W
@Cardinals - W
Packers - W
Chiefs - W
@Niners - W
Cowboys - W
@Seahawks - L
@Bucs - W
Seahawks - W

1-3 start, panic everywhere, finish 13-4

But I now see a win next week if Puka is back. I think our DL will get after the Eagles offense and we are due to beat them, just like Denver was due to beat us.

This is me relaxed after last nights game

I had this penciled in as a loss too. Problem is, I also have the next two penciled as a loss.

I couldn't sleep last night, so upset about the refs, finally getting some ZZZZZs at 4 in the morning. New morning and new day.
I'll relax now and thanks for the positive perspective.

I'm not worried about the team. I think McVay will get it sorted. I'm worried that we can't trust the results. The refs have always been a problem (particularly Vinobitch), but with all the gambling, it feels so much more questionable now.

SAME!

Slept for maybe an hour after that though tossed and turned for 2.5 hours before I had to get up and pick up my son from work.

Was talking to one of my best friends, a Broncos fan as hardcore as I am a Rams fan, and him acknowledging how bad a call that was helped get talked off the ledge…

I don't think Shula needs to be fired but we added way too much talent to be happy with the results we've gotten so far. With our level of talent, being a top 10 scoring defense is underperforming. Look at what Flores is doing with Minnesota, and they don't have our talent level.

I'm concerned that Shula and McVay are not going to be aggressive enough with the talent they have. I don't like how Shula isn't adjusting when the pass rush isn't getting home with four. But I'm pretty relaxed until Garrett comes back.

Pass rush needs to close out games and just like last season it's not happening.
Have to admit I was a little disappointed in how little AD affected the game in the 2nd half. But he did get his foot stepped on or caught and twisted or something at one point prior.

Also BY was a terror the first half, then disappeared. Stewart didn't do much at all.

After that second half the negative part of me comes out.

"This is not the super team the media proclaimed. Might not even be a playoff team."
"We'll be 1-4 in a couple weeks"
"Age might finally be catching up to Stafford"
"We could be drafting in the top 15. In the second round not the first"

We got the short end on some penalties. Coulda gone either way. When you look at the game I think they weren't prepared for Watson's injury. Guys were out of position. I'll bet the secondary's gonna be extra focused this week. Of the tough 3 game stretch I always felt Philly was the most vulnerable. I half expected a loss in Denver.

A win next week and all is better. 2-3 with beatable teams coming up after Buffalo is ok. We were 3-6 three years ago and made the playoffs. 1-4 two years ago. Made the playoffs and advanced to the second round barely losing a close on to the eventual champs.

There's a lot of games left. That won't be our last loss. I expect Garrett and Puka to make a difference In December and January. Along with a better conditioned Aaron Donald. When we're at full strength we will be a threat to anyone. Even on the road.

Part of me doesn't want to be positive. Its my defense mechanism. If we lose "Well, I expected it". If we win its a pleasant surprise.

Defense would be better if the STs didnt allow short fields

This really is the one major takeaway for me. Kick coverage was passable. FGs were on point.

The punt operation is the bane of this teams existence right now.....how is it that punt coverage is so bad? We cannot change that over night....but we can cut Evans, and its really the only in season adjustment we can make. And its possible that his shortcomings are contributing more to the punt coverage than we realize

Obviously 1-2 isn't ideal....but for the bolded, imagine Seattle walking into Denver without say, JSN and Leonard Williams. Pretty sure they get boat raced. We're so talented that we dominated them and they needed quite a bit of luck to get that win

I do believe this team makes the playoffs no matter the record end of week 5. I would rather be healthy and peaking in January than now.

Couple of things though: while I appreciate Mevis going 4 for 4, I dont want that many FG attempts. They were 1 for 4 in the red zone last night. That needs to be at least 2 for 4 minimum.

While I love Puka the player, i dont like him off the field and his lack of availability. At this point I am not giving him big guarenteed money.

Shula was a friend hire. Down the road he may end up being a great DC, who knows. But he is not there yet and if he loses Watson for an extended period shit may get ugly before it gets better.

By the time Garrett returns we may be in a 1-4 hole. There's no telling how ugly shit may get.

Of course I hope we win a couple and everything trends the way we expected prior to the season. But this team has significant flaws through three games and even with their talent level overcoming that on top of a start that puts them at the bottom of the standings are going to be enormously difficult to overcome.
