(FootballStL) -The Rams defense took big steps forward in 2012 but the top ranked units in San Francisco and Seattle are receiving more attention.
Defensive end Robert Quinn was one of the anchors of a defense that tied for the NFL lead last season with 52 sacks. He agreed with the above assessment.
"I definitely think we are," Quinn said when asked. "Come game time, there is nothing to fly under then. San Francisco has a great team, Seattle is a great team, and you have Arizona that is making improvements. We have a tough division but we will play our role and fly under the radar."
Quinn and fellow DE Chris Long made team history in 2012 by becoming the first pair of Rams' defensive ends to record double-digit sacks in a season. Despite a stellar season both individually for Quinn and collectively for the defense, the third-year lineman thinks it will be even better in 2013.
"I'm very excited. With the defensive line, with a young safety, and a young linebacker showing great improvement. Safety T.J McDonald is catching a lot of people's eyes out there, he's making huge plays," Quinn said. "Overall, we have a majority of our defense back and I think we're going to surprise a lot of people."
