Rams are projected to get a 3rd and 4th rounder next year. When was the last time the Rams got a comp pick? I honestly can't think of when we had one. It also discusses some details of our trade with the Titans to move up to #1. We send the Titans our comp pick if we are awarded one in the 3rd round not our pick. Also if we don't have a 3rd round comp and have to send them our pick we get their 7th round pick.

I think this was the first year for a while that we didn't have a comp pick, but we have mostly had 7th rounders with the occasional 6th.

That's incorrect that is the reason they gave up a third was because the Rams knew they were getting a 3rd round compensatory pick for Jenkins so trading a 1st and a 3rd next year, they knew they would still have a third round pick. Titans will get the Rams pick and Rams will keep the compensatory pick which is at the end of the rounds.

I'm pretty sure that I heard Snead saying that the deal with the Titans was that now that comp picks can be traded the Titans will get the Jenkins comp pick if it is in the 3rd round, and the Rams pick if it is not.

Incidentally, does anyone know why Coty Sensabaugh wasn't included on the list? I think we gave him $15m over 3 years, so I thought he would be on the list at $5m per year. He could cancel out the McLeod comp, except that we also lost Fairley and Bates, so maybe we still get 2?

Okay I do realize you can trade Compensatory picks now, but I was quite sure the Titans would get the Rams third round pick.

The Titans have agreed to trade the No.1 pick of the draft to the Los Angeles Rams for the 15th overall pick in this year’s draft, two second-round picks (43 and 45), and a third-rounder (76) in 2016. The Titans will also receive the Rams’ first-round pick in 2017, along with their third-round pick in next year’s draft.

I think that article is from just after the trade happened, when we all thought it was the Rams' pick they were getting, but since then Snead has talked about the Titans getting the comp pick. There is something about it here as well:

I think this is right, but we might also get a 4th round comp pick for McLeod (provided that Fairley and Bates cancel out Sensabaugh)

The Titans get the Rams third round comp pick. So, the Rams pick at number 96 and the Titans at number 97.

It's practically a wash.

It's in the article listed if you dig for it. The Titans will get our 3rd round comp pick. If we don't get one they get our regular 3rd rounder and we get their 7th rounder.

Guess I was not in the mood to dig this morning, but @Limey found the article and posted accordingly so the fact the Rams will get the better pick is a plus, thanks Gentlemen!

Compensatory pick threshold passes for unrestricted free agents
Posted by Curtis Crabtree on May 12, 2016

The May 12 threshold has arrived in the NFL making remaining unrestricted free agents that much more unrestricted.

What do we mean by that? Well, any player that remains an unrestricted free agent due to their contracts expiring with their team in March is now free to sign with another franchise without the signing counting into the equation for determining compensatory draft picks.

Does that really matter? To some teams, yes. Baltimore has been very conscious about getting compensatory draft picks under Ozzie Newsome. While the best free agents on the market will be scooped up in the early free agent frenzy regardless of how it factors into compensatory picks, once it gets to this point in the offseason it’s easier for teams to wait until after the deadline has passed to sign remaining free agents without the threat of losing draft picks next year.

There are 147 players that could now benefit from the change. The list is included below:
