We take a momentary detour from the free agent frenzy to bring some comedy to the scene at the end of another high stakes day in free agency.
One of the bigger moves of the day was the completion of the trade of Donovan McNabb from the Washington Redskins to the Minnesota Vikings, a move that required a little massaging since Tuesday to complete.
Now, the veteran quarterback is on his way to the Vikings, his third organization in three seasons. A tip of the cap to Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com for quickly reporting about Chris Kluwe’s immediate demands for McNabb to get a purple jersey with No. 5 on it. The outspoken punter has worn the number since he joined the club in 2005 and it’s the number McNabb has had throughout his stellar career.
Kluwe has put a price tag on the jersey. He’s not asking for cash or jewelry, either, which is refreshing on its own.
“So here's the deal,” Kluwe wrote on Twitter. “If McNabb comes and wants 5, it's his, BUT he has to promise to mention Tripping Icarus in at least 5 press conferences.”
Tripping Icarus is an alternative rock band that Kluwe is a member of in the Twin Cities area. He is a bass player.
The guess here is McNabb will gladly oblige.
