A friendly reminder - the vent thread is open and available for ranting.

It wasn't as bad as the vent thread makes it out to be, of course. A number of positives in this game:
  • The Rams had his best 3rd down game in a while, converting 6/15, a very reasonable 40%.
  • He had 73 yards passing on 3rd down. Evenly spread among 4 quarters - no garbage yards to speak of.
  • Average distance to go on 3rd down was 7.7 yards. Shorter distance than Chi, Min, and Cle games. Longer than SF and Baltimore, though.
  • Foles had 3rd down completions of 16, 15, 14, and 12 yards. Easy to forget these.
  • I got what I asked for - Foles scrambled and tried to make a play on 3rd down rather than dumping it off for minimal gain. Of course, it turned into a pick 6. My bad. But overall, I'll take our 3rd down production compared to the previous 5 games.
  • Foles was 30/46 overall, his best of late.
  • Completions were made to 11 different receivers.
  • Austin was targeted 6 times, had 6 receptions. Tre Mason 7/7. We haven't seen a lot of this.
  • Got to see Manion and he looked fine. Don't care how good his numbers were, the defense was in prevent mode, but he looked the part.
  • Only 1 sack in the game. Remember we are playing 5th stringers in their 3rd positions of the year due to injuries.
  • Overall, we had equal number of 1st downs (19), only 31 fewer yards (346) and only 14 seconds less in time of possession than the Bengals. And this was with 3 turnovers.
All I'm saying is this game was better than the past 5 in many ways. I saw improvement in the passing game.

Mason finally showed some flashes. Hopefully he builds on this and continues to be a valuable piece moving forward.

More third down completions.

If it was not obvious already, Tavon Ausin is the real deal.

Bradley Marquez had a few nice catches and continues to show lots of heart in his limited targets. In some respects, it's eerily similar to Bailey. Given Stedman's uncertain future right now, Marquez's emergence is welcome.

Britt continues to make some catches. He can definitely be improved upon, but continuity and knowing system has some value. Assuming we totally re-vamp things on offense this off season, I'm not convinced going with a WR corps full of rookies is a good thing. Having a vet or two is beneficial. I wouldn't mind Britt continuing to be that guy. Dating back to last year, he seems to get open deep a number of times only to be ignored by his QB. And his team mates seem to like him.

Jared Cook played better. Only one dropped pass (from memory). Nice block on Austin's TD.

Hard to cull positives from this game. My ranting self wants to just say that the only positive is that the dumpser fire of a game is over. Except that I'm no longer looking forward to the next Rams game for fear of the next dumpster fire.

Good point about Cook's block. I thought his 1st quarter drop lacked effort. The pass was behind him and he reached back with one hand instead of turning his body to the ball.

I saw that too....the details not noted by Thomas, Wagoner

An effort made to get the ball out quickly and help Foles complete some passes and OL didn't have to hold blocks

Throws across the middle, slants, crossers

Screen game was better

Wildcat was a twist not seen previously

Kinda offsets the narrative that all is crap

The only positive I came away with was that it was 0-0 when the game started and the Patriots lost on Sunday Night.

my one postive:

spent the early part of the day Christmas shopping with and for the wife and went out for a nice lunch with some friends. Got home just in time to see the slaughter begin after halftime

It's a tough season and difficult game to find positives, but I'll point out; despite an offensive line way down the depth chart, on the road, they've kept the false starts to a minimal.

I have been surprised by that, honestly.

A huge reason the offensive stats were a little better is because the Bengals let off the gas in the second half. If they kept up the intensity the whole game I don't think we see those same numbers. One positive of the game is that there weren't any serious injuries. Well as far as I know.

This thread reminds me of things I tell myself when I look in the mirror trying to justify my poor appearance.

putting sprinkles on a turd still makes it a turd. the fact this team has regressed this much from previous years with a BACKUP QB and no Todd Gurely is appalling. I'm sorry but none of that reflected the scoreboard or any progression on offense. wasn't Tavons big run off a pass? cus that's 60 plus yards right there that doesn't count for Foles

"You can put sugar on a turd, and it will still taste like a turd".

I once said that in front of a very large group of senior people in my company.

I didn't get fired :sneaky:
