San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey is expected to miss the rest of the season with a torn biceps, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Dorsey injured his left arm at practice Friday and left the field after being attended to by the training stuff. He will have surgery Monday.

Dorsey was hurt on his 29th birthday. He is set to be a free agent after this season.

Dorsey came into his own when he signed with the 49ers and was an instant success at nose tackle. Dorsey didn't make much of a difference in five seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City took him with the No. 5 overall pick in 2008.

Second-year player Quinton Dial, a fifth-round pick out of Alabama last year, should get reps with the first team in Dorsey's place. Dial is having a productive camp.

The 49ers also have Ian Williams, who was the starter at the beginning of last season. He suffered a severe leg injury in Week 2 at Seattle and was lost for the year. He is still not practicing, but the team is hopeful he can play this season.

After the niners historic run of injury free seasons (especially on the OL), it's time to pay the piper. The law of averages is finally going to bite them hard this time.....

They have plenty of depth and will be fine, they're not going away. I never root for guys to get hurt or am pleased when it happens, but I will root for Jim Harbaugh to want more power and because of that heads to the AFC after the season.

I'm not going to celebrate a guy getting injured. They have had a better run of staying healthily. Maybe that is luck, maybe they have a better, smarter training staff.
Either way there will be injuries. How the team can deal with it is key....depth and coaching. There is more than Dorsey keeping the Rams from rocketing passed the Whiners.

Yes, the niners are deep. But how is this loss and starting without Bowman gonna affect them? Do they go from very good to just good? After all, the back end of their defense is average at best. The front 7 carried them. The front 7 is a little less deep now. Could they wear down late in games?

It doesn't really matter. The Rams are a better team this year even if the 40'ers were 100%.
1 more draft and Rams will be a big step above any other team in the division.

For the first time in forever, we need to put a vast majority of our money resigning who we have. But yeah, I agree.

Yes. It's gonna be hard to do and some guys will have to go. But with what Sneed is doing so well is bringing in more legit out of the box players every year. The Rams will be a ascending team for years.

I'm sure it will effect them. How much, who knows.
The Rams O was weak enough last year it wouldn't have matter. This year is a new year. I certain thing the Rams O will be better.
The key to beating SF is Kaperdoodle. They have a lot of weapons in the passing game now.

Jim Harbaugh is going to wish he got a new contract, because this season is going to be a rough one for him

Really? What do you think their record is going to be and why?

think they are going to win 8 games...why..because I am a Rams fan and a wee bit biased LOL
