Plays that shaped the Rams' season: No. 7

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- Although the 6-10 record wouldn't indicate many great moments for the St. Louis Rams in 2014, they did have their share of bright spots. And perhaps none of the handful of good things that came out of the season shined brighter than the Rams' 22-7 victory against the Denver Broncos on Nov. 16.
A week after a disappointing loss to the Arizona Cardinals in which the Rams coughed up a fourth-quarter lead once again and with injuries piling up to the point that the Rams had almost nobody available for practice, most pundits (present company included) figured the Rams to be on the wrong end of a blowout loss with Peyton Manning and Co. coming to town.
Instead, the Rams offered their most resilient performance of the season as they dominated the Broncos in a game that wasn't even as close as the 15-point margin might indicate. There were plenty of memorable plays for the Rams in the game but none set the tone better than the 63-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Shaun Hill to receiver Kenny Britt late in the first quarter.
Hill hit Britt in stride for an easy pitch and catch that made it 10-0 and actually provided all the points the Rams would need to get the victory. They went on to tack on 12 more to put it away, but the early score set a tone that seemed to energize the team.
What's more, the touchdown pass also represented a step up at quarterback that had been missing. Earlier in the week, Rams coach Jeff Fisher opted to go back to Hill as his starting quarterback after Austin Davis struggled in Arizona. Davis had great success throwing the deep ball in his first few starts but had become scattershot in the few weeks prior to the Denver game.
With Hill back in the mix, Britt emerged as the primary receiving option and Britt went on to post four catches for 128 yards. Britt finished the season as the first Rams pass catcher to surpass 700 receiving yards in a season since Torry Holt in 2008.
The victory against Denver didn't spur the Rams to great things for the season but it offered some much-needed hope that the Rams could finish the season on a high note and potentially make a late push for the postseason.
