Playoff Race Update and Week 14 Projection

Going into Week 14, here is an update on the race for the final two playoff spots (presuming PHI, SF, DAL and DET make it, along with the NFC South champ – ATL currently out front).

Vikings 6-6
Packers 6-6
Rams 6-6
Seahawks 6-6
Buccaneers 5-7
Saints 5-7

Here are the Week 14 matchups for the pertinent teams:

Rams @ Ravens
Buccaneers @ Falcons
Panthers @ Saints
Vikings @ Raiders
Seahawks @ 49ers
Packers @ Giants

Not a very favorable schedule for the Rams to jump into a playoff spot, but if they can beat the Ravens, it certainly is possible that the Vikings or Packers might falter on the road.

I’m going to go with an optimistic prediction and go with the Rams to upset Baltimore, the Falcons to push the Bucs out of the race, the Saints to keep pace with a win, the Vikings and Seahawks to lose, and the Packers to win.

That would put the Rams in the #7 spot, a tiebreaker behind the Packers.

Packers have 4 of if not 5 winnable games remaining after beating the Chiefs. The Vikings have 1 maybe 2 winnable games remaining. The Seahawks could/should lose at least 2 or 3 of their remaining games. If we take care of business against the Commodes, Aints and Gnats we very easily could be in as the 7th seed. We lose a tiebreaker to GB but own it vs the Seafucks. These are the most realistic scenarios with 4 teams vying for 2 spots, Rams are in a good position.

I said I’d get excited WHEN the Rams beat the Browns. Color me excited. Assuming we remain healthy I’m smelling a 4 game run to get to 10-6. Then a dog fight with a very formidable 69er team to fuel some playoff action. All I can say is I’m ecstatic with the possibilities after their 2-6 spiral that followed their impressive opening day win.

True, but doesn't the scoring and run game within the last two games provide optimism? There's a difference between beating teams you should beat 17-16 and dropping 36 to 37 points. And the defense hasn't allow more than 20 pts in the last 4 games.

We need the Seahawks to lose two more and Vikings three. Looking at their schedules, both are likely.

If both happen, all we need to do is beat the Commodes, Saints and Giants and we will be in.
