Patriots cheating conspiracy video surfaces

“Patriots Cheaters 2019”

Nods head excitedly

A Patriots cheating conspiracy surfaced on YouTube this week with an unequivocal title, but it appears to lack the supporting evidence of Spygate and Deflategate.

The video, which was promoted by Dallas radio host R.J. Choppy, comes from the second quarter of New England’s 13-9 victory over the Cowboys on Sunday. It shows the officials moving the first-down marker from the Patriots’ 5-yard-line to the 4 in between first and second down, seemingly adding a yard to the Cowboys’ yards to gain.

But, as Yahoo! Sports points out, the issue seems to be with the initial ball placement being put at the 15-yard-line, instead of the 14, after a roughing the passer penalty came on the same play as a Michael Gallup catch.

The play-by-play had Gallup being tackled at the 29, which should have brought the ball half the distance to the goalline and somewhere between the Patriots’ 14 and 15. The drive ended with the Cowboys kicking a field goal on fourth-and-5.

At worst, it appears this was more the referees making a mistake — no shocker there — than a widespread conspiracy involving the Patriots.

It comes after Twitter fingers were being pointed toward New England after a man was spotted on a roof watching Cowboys practice in last week’s leadup to the game.

Bill Belichick responds to accusations that Patriots tipped off officials before key penalties against Cowboys

During New England's 13-9 win over Dallas on Sunday, the officiating crew in the game started a small controversy in the fourth quarter when they decided to flag the Cowboys for a key tripping penalty.

The penalty basically killed any chances the Cowboys had of winning the game, because it turned a third-and-1 play -- that the Cowboys had converted into a first down -- into a desperate third-and-11. The odd thing about the penalty is that it was the second time the Cowboys had been called for tripping in the game, which absolutely qualifies as odd, since there had only been one other tripping penalty called on every NFL team combined this season.

So why did officials all of the sudden start calling tripping penalties this week, and why did those calls only come in the Cowboys-Patriots game?

Former Jets coach Rex Ryan, who now works for ESPN, believes that it was Bill Belichick's fault. Ryan's theory is that Belichick probably sent some film to the league office before the game to make sure that they would be on the lookout for possible tripping violations against the Cowboys. It's not a crazy theory, especially when you consider that NFL teams almost never get called for tripping, especially twice in one game.

Belichick was actually asked about those accusations on Tuesday. During his press conference, the Patriots coach was specifically asked if tripping was something he had seen on film from the Cowboys. Belichick was also asked if he had talked to the the NFL before the game with a request that they look more closely at potential tripping violations agains the Cowboys.

"No. I mean, the Cowboys are one of the least penalized teams in the league," Belichick said. "They do a great job. I want to say they had the fewest pre-snap penalties -- you know, illegal formation and false start and stuff like that. They had one in our game offensively, but they rarely have that."

Belichick then went on compliment the Cowboys offense over the fact that it rarely ever gets penalized.

"They don't have a lot of offensive holding or pass interference or penalties like that," Belichick said. "They're one of the least penalized teams in the league. I think that their coaching staff, Coach [Jason] Garrett and their coaches, they do a great job of that. I'd say just in general they've had some personal foul penalties, but as far as the fundamentals of blocking, tackling, alignment – things like that – offsides, false starts, they're one of the least in the league."

After Belichick shot down the first question, he was given a follow-up about whether or not he asked the officiating crew during the game to watch out for tripping, and this time, he was slightly more vague with his answer.

"Yeah, I'm saying it would be hard to find examples of it because they're just a team that was not penalized very much. We haven't been penalized a lot either," Belichick said. "I mean, when you looked at the matchups in that game from a penalty standpoint, statistically it didn't look like there was a big edge either way. And sometimes, it evens out. One team has more in one area and the other team might have more in another area or something like that. So, I would say that really wasn't the case."

Once again, Belichick finished his answer off by complimenting the Cowboys, which is definitely something that someone with a guilty conscience would do ... but for real it still seems unclear whether or not Ryan's theory was correct.

"I was really impressed in watching Dallas, and then going back and looking at the numbers, they only had like three or four of those pre-snap penalties offensively the entire season, which is -- I mean, hell, sometimes you see that in one game," Belichick said. "But, those guys rarely had that, and they didn't have very many offensive interference, and holding and stuff like that. I mean, they just don't do much of it."

The worst part of all this for the Cowboys is that the NFL would later admit that the tripping penalties should have never been called. Of course, the league's apology means absolutely nothing, and that's because it doesn't change the outcome of the game.

Honestly I believe a more compelling read would be finding an article on a game were the Pats didn't cheat. Have to be in the Plunkett or Grogan era.

I actually liked Grogan good solid QB. Played alot of years for bad teams. And your right most Pats fans don't have a clue who he is.

When someone claims to be a fan of a certain team I always ask them to name the starting center. That is how I weed out bandwagon from true fans.

I loved Grogan when I was a little little kid.
Not sure why as I was a Ram fan.
Looking at his stats it appears he wasn’t all that great. I just remember him being tough. Taking a beating and kept going.
Although in 16 years he only had 7 season with fewer pics than TDS.

Definitely a die hard Rams fan through the good, bad, super duper terrific, funny and sad times.

Who is Austin Blythe? Allen had a ACL/MCL injury. Crossing fingers off memory.

Happy Thanksgiving ROD

Everyone whines when the Patriots beat their team and calls "cheater" on them.

Fans are odd about them. Everyone hates them outside of NE and just has a hard time admitting that they have Brady and Belichick and that's a BIG advantage. Once they are gone we won't hear a peep about them cheating, it'll be someone else.

Manning deflated footballs and nobody cared. Brady did it and it was discussed forever.

Well, that's kind of because they've been caught cheating. Yes they have those two spawn of Satan, but they also have been skirting over the lines of fair play for decades. Maybe everyone does it, but not everyone does it as well as they do. It's okay to take up the mantle for them, if that's what you wanna do, but you'll be unsuccessful if you try to convince people that they should be the model of excellence going forward. There are too many stains that can't be washed away.

LOL.
So true.
I would do this in 99 with the Rams too.
In about 99 or 2000 some Rams fans came up to me at the mall or something, (they were everywhere) I spoke to him for a minute. Afterward my wife who had been standing there, said "why do you always say that?" I didn't know what she was talking about. She said "every time someone says they are a rams fan you always say that you have been a fan for 30 years".

First off I wasn't used to meeting other rams fans, probably didn't know how to react. Secondly I was probably self-conscious about being seen as a band wagon fan.

The league office destroying evidence in Tapegate is all the proof anyone needs that the Patriots cheated to "win" SB36. From https://theramswire.usatoday.com/20...patriots-super-bowl-cheated-film-walkthrough/

Isaac Bruce echoed the same idea last week, saying “off the record,” he believes the Patriots did film their walkthrough before the Super Bowl.
“And I think it gave them an edge as well,” Bruce said. “I mean, you know, we were really rolling that year, and no one covered us. It’s funny, TMZ never came out with that tape, you never saw that tape!”
Bruce added that the Patriots signed Terrell Buckley a few weeks before the Super Bowl, which he believes was a questionable move at the time, too.
“He was beating us to spots! He was beating us to spots, and he hadn’t been there that long, and he was on the street, so, you know, the reason he was on the street, but he came in, and he was beating us to spots, and he was making plays that game, so, something was going on,” Bruce said.

I had a “fan” accuse me of being a bandwagon Ram fan in 99 because I was wearing a Rams jacket signed by a Carolina Panther and a Steeler......
Sean Gilbert and Jerome Bettis......
I invited him to violate himself.

I agree they are cheaters. However if everyone is doing it then they are the worst at it since they keep getting caught. You mention too many stains..........no other team other than NO and Bountygate have much on their record.

Belichick and Brady passed Montana and Walsh as the best HC/QB tandem years ago. When it ends the Patriots will go back to being bums.
