Packers have to hope Russell Wilson’s fumble luck runs out

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has done something extraordinarily lucky this season: He hasn’t lost a fumble.
It might sound unfair to call it “lucky” that Wilson hasn’t lost a fumble. After all, some quarterbacks are good at protecting the ball and some quarterbacks aren’t, and the ones who don’t lose the ball a lot are doing something right, aren’t they?
Not in the case of Wilson, who actually hasn’t been very good at protecting the ball this season. he’s just been good at not having to pay for it.
Counting the playoffs, Wilson has fumbled 12 times this season, and either he or his teammates have recovered all 12 of those fumbles. Even if you think Wilson and the Seahawks happen to be particularly good at jumping on loose balls, no team recovers every fumble without a little luck. The bounce of an oblong ball just isn’t predictable enough for recovering fumbles to be a repeatable skill.
So if today’s game is like most games, Wilson will probably fumble in the NFC Championship Game. The Packers have to hope they get a lucky bounce, and that Wilson’s luck runs out.
