Now that things have settled down a bit with free agency and the men in charge went 5/6 on free agents (I guess 5/7 but Ware retired didn't sign elsewhere and really Groy signed here just the Bills had RFA rights).
As we sit right now we have $9.4 million when you set aside money for the rookie pool. We're about done with free agency but I'll make another move or two. These moves leave us with about $8 million in cap space.
C John Sullivan $4 Million/2 years.
Our stop gap center now. Former starter in Minnesota who was a backup last year for the Redskins comes in for what might be his last contract.
DT Ricardo Matthews $3 Million/2 Years
Journeyman DT who finds himself the odd man out in Pittsburgh's 3-4 behind Tuitt and Hargraves.
For the draft I think there is a very very real chance we trade down from our first spot unless somebody that they covet is there. For this mock I'm going to say one of those players is available.
Round 2 pick 5:
TE Evan Engram Ole Miss
A matchup nightmare to pair with Higbee. We've seen the numbers in the past and know McVay is going to run a lot of 2 TE sets.
Round 3 pick 5:
CB Jourdan Lewis Michigan
Lewis' height and relatively slow running at the combine have him dropping into the 3rd for us. Has great ball skills and fluidity and should excel in Wades defense.
Round 4 pick 5:
DT Nazair Jones North Carolina
We've had some success drafting DLine from North Carolina and dip into that well again. Strong defender especially from the waist down. With his size and strength he shows good speed and should slot in at NT early in his career.
Round 4 pick 35:
Josh Carraway Edge TCU
Stealing one from @PressureD41 here. Looked into him after his last mock and there's a lot to like here. Will benefit from not having to start right away but can come in and learn behind Barwin and Quinn.
Round 5 pick 5:
WR Josh Reynolds Texas A&M
Doesn't have game changing speed at 4.5 but is a big WR at 6'3" who was constantly able to churn out big plays. Averaged 17 YPC and hauled in 12 TD this past season.
Round 6 pick 5:
CB Jeremy Clark Michigan.
Dipping into that excellent Michigan secondary again. At 6'3" and 200lbs he ran an impressive 4.43 40 yard. Good size and man skills for Wade to utilize.
Round 6 pick 22:
C Chase Roullier Wyoming
He's been my guy for a long time now and no sense in changing that.
Round 7 pick 16:
ILB Ben Boulware Clemson
Wade Phillips as we know is one of the best DC the league has ever seen. What most people don't realize is the man that runs the great 3-4 defenses does it at ILB with late round or UDFA picks on a regular basis. Here we bring in a guy who needs some work to be a starter but he's allowed that by sitting behind Ogletree and Barron. I thought about Hardy Nickerson Jr but with how much Jrry likes Boulware I decided to put him in instead.
UDFA I would target:
Ezra Robinson CB Tennessee St
Dymonte Thomas SS Michigan
Michael Hutchings OLB USC
Isaac Rochel DE Notre Dame
