Not so very long ago the following things were true:

Rams were frantically scouring the waiver wire for camp cuts that could improve their team. Now other teams are jumping on OUR cuts.

Rams were disrespected cellar dwellers. Now they are NFCW champs with an 11-5 record (while resting starters in their final game).

Rams coaches were considered inept while fielding underachieving teams. Now none other than Jimmy Johnson says the Rams coaches are best in the league.

Ram fans used to hope that draftees could look decent by year three. Now their coaches are getting star production from draftees in year one.

Rams fans used to start draft discussions as early as October. Now we discuss potential Ram playoff seedings.

Rams used to go through QB’s every year like water through a sieve. Now we have a QB among the league’s most promising.

Rams had the league’s worst O in back to back seasons. Now our team has led the league in scoring (while sitting starters in final game, mind you).

Rams used to dream of improving their roster to respectability. Now they’re straining to be able to keep star players while remaining under the cap.

Ram fans used to dream of an 8-8 non-losing season. Now they entertain legit SB aspirations.

Don’t know about you, but I haven’t felt this good, this confidant, about the Rams chances since the GSOT days. And frankly, I think this run will be for a much longer time.

We got Bill Walsh lucky with the McVay hire. And I don’t think I’m overstating that.

Bill Walsh lucky. I like that. As a matter of fact, I suspect teams are looking for “the next Sean McVay” rather than “the next Lurch Shanahan”. And I think that says a lot.

A few weeks into that 99 season I was thinking they would make the playoffs for sure. A few weeks after that was when I started thinking they could possibly go all the way. By late in the season I was figuring they were not going to be stopped.

I feel like we are in the same space now.

Well, considering Rams should of had Walsh in 78, however, owner Carroll Rosenbloom made a last minute change of direction, which he regretted. Anyway I'm excited too, but McVay needs to win a few playoff games before I start the Walsh comparison.

Funny I never thought the 99 Rams were going all the way until Mike Jones made "The Tackle." Too many heartbreaks to feel that confident. I look forward to being that confident about my football team someday, I used to feel that way about the Los Angeles Lakers and it's a great feeling.

That 99 team was different. 4 games in I knew they were pretty good.

Midway through the season or so they lost back to back games (turnovers!!!) then proceeded to beat the snot out of every defense they faced. They were really coming together and by the end of they year I didn't feel like a team in the NFL was better and thought the only team that had a chance was JAX. They lost to the Titans.

I didn't think the SB would be close, I thought the Rams were going to hang 40+ on the Titans even though they lost to them early in the year.

That feeling is back.

I wonder how many (myself included) will now be disappointed if they have a stinker game or don't play up to our new expectations. The '99 team blew us all away and took a while to start believing in. Right now, it is pretty obvious we have very high expectations for this team - as well we should. I just hope we can keep it in check (again, myself included) if we don't play the part of destroyers of all who enter the gridiron.

The thing with 99 was they had sucked for SO many years. So it for sure took a little bit to buy in, especially after the one year a few years earlier where they won 4 or 5 of the first 5 or 6 games, I don't remember the year, then fell apart.

This team is established, and is loaded with talent. The new expectations are fair and well earned.

Just like the expectations were in 99-01..........

This team is poised and ready and has enough to contend for the title.

You gotta believe!!!

OMG! So true, even last year until the NY Giants game after coming back from across the pond, I didn't feel confident that we could win any game.

Boy, did they prove me wrong.

Oh - I BELIEVE. But to say this team is established is a bit premature. All we see would indicate this team is a SB contender. We will be pretty shocked by anything but. And that is what I am saying. The '99 Rams caught us all by surprise. Hell - after a 4-12 season, they could do no wrong. This team is EXPECTED to win and go deep into the playoffs - completely different.

Had they played starters in week 18 they would have beaten the 49ers IMO and that would be a 12-4 record. I'd say they established themselves based on the record and the teams they beat. They gave the SB champs all they could handle too. I'm guessing nobody takes this team lightly anymore.

I'm watching the highlights of that game.

Lots of empty seats, the Giants stunk and fans didn't show up.

Obstacle 1 - dominate NFC West
Obstacle 2 - establish strong home field advantage in regular season
Obstacle 3 - finish strong against top NFC competition during regular season - saints, Vikings, eagles to establish playoff home field advantage
Obstacle 4 - lock all doors and gates with security manning each to keep the Cheatriots from spying on Rams super bowl practices

I've been disappointed too many times over the past 15 years to let my expectations get too high.

I'm cautiously optimistic. It all looks good so far but I have too see them prove it on the field in TC and pre-season.

Its wasnt too bad of a turnout considering the weather, cold and rainy, pretty much miserable conditions to spend a Sunday afternoon on
