yea that's the key right. pretty sure he had more picks than games played last year. 13-10 TD to pick ratio is bad. and if the line is as raw as I think it's gonna be then he might turn into Austin Davis after a few games. worst case scenario. best case is we can successfully run it 60% of the time then launch it downfield.

If he can just make a few plays, convert some 3rd down plays and not turn the ball over.

He should be fine - some interceptions trying to force something in long, but at least those will be less likely to be pick-6s, and if long enough not really much worse than a punt anyway. And if the defense has to worry about him throwing long that should open up the run and short passes much more than they have been open.

I would be very happy just to see Foles push the ball downfield a little bit.

If our opponents move 8 men in the box to stop Gurley (or Mason), then maybe he should push it more than a little bit.

The occasional deep throw should be in his arsenal, of course.

But I would like to see the opposing D constantly forced to pick their poison between doses of Gurley and 15-20 yard strikes.

A symphony of safe, clock eating, D resting, chain moving, and scoring drives.

Well, this was my number issue with Sam. Sam was too conservative at time with the football. Every now and then, you need to stretch the D. Foles should be able to that, as he's demonstrated a little gunslinger mentality.

We have big receivers who can run down-field (e.g., Kenny, Quickie, Cookie), and we have super-quick smurfs who can cut on a dime in Sted & Tavon, and we have effective RB's to run play-action with in Tre & the Gurley Man. We just gotta take strikes down-field with weapons like these.

Come on dude, down field. He's obviously talking about throwing the ball 2-3 yards past the LOS or behind it. We've been doing this down field stuff for years.

Hmm, well he didn't exactly say (long), more like (down field). I think that means beyond 20 yds or so. I think Foles has the ability to at least put the ball into catch-able area and let the receiver go get it....that is, if he gets protection up front....the big mystery.

Foles needs his biggest improvement to be in the intermediate throws that Warner was the best at. That 25 yard pass over the middle. Slants or seams ,crossing patterns,deep curls or back shoulder stuff everyone works on now. Warner was NEVER out of it on 3RD down. I hope Weinke will focus on his weakest area day in and day out.

Yes Foles can throw deep but some question his accuracy as Coach Kelly has done in the press recently. lol Quick and Britt have some of the biggest biceps I've seen on any WR's in the league. I think they will win a few contested balls for Nick this season. I have to believe Stedman Bailey will become one of Nicks favorites very early on. I see Hines Ward when I see Stedman Bailey. He will beat his man by the slim-est of margin in route running but will end up with the ball almost everytime . All Bailey is lacking is that crazy smile. Can't wait to see the two light it up. Maybe Foles can get Tavon Austin to get his act finally together. With some help from our new OC. We can do better than jet sweeps.

I was thinking the same thing. Everyone loves a gunslinger until he throws the INT.

Personally, I like the talk of more aggressive play down the field. Davis and Hill just didn't have the arm strength to make it a threat the defense had to worry about.

We've got the WR speed to do it. Now we have 2 QB's that can throw it.
