Just heard on the local news here that the Patriots wont be playing on opening night as is customary.

The NFL has opted to go with the oldest match up rivalry Bears @ Packers to commemorate the NFL 100 year anniversary

Good. Phase those stale bastards out. Tired of it, as is most of the country.
If it's a 100 year anniversary, I wonder if they'll do like the 75th and have throwbacks featured across the league more often — including ref uniforms.

If I’m not mistaken, wasn’t that one of the first games last year where recently acquired Mack was absolutely destroying Rodgers and GB??

Isn't it called the "Hall of Fame" game? Recent Super Bowl opponents kick off the football season, no?
 


That sounds good on the surface but it could lead to weak teams beating up on other weak teams and having a team or more reaching the playoffs because of an easy schedule.

Conversely some very good teams may come up a bit short.
