Maybe someone can explain monsters of the midway?

WTF is the Midway. If it’s a naval battle reference I don’t understand the connection. It always seemed odd to me.

While the above list is arguably top 10 these are other unit nicknames with honorable mention:

Air Coryell
Chargers offense of the late 70s to mid-80s

Over-the-Hill Gang
Redskins team in 70's for their collection of castoff vets. Also called Ramskins in early 70s

The Gold Rush
49ers pass rush in mid-70's

The Silver Rush
Lions pass rush coined after 9ers D in the late 70s

Grits Blitz
Falcons Blitz defense from 1977 to early 80s

11 Angry Men
Raiders defense in the late 60s. Named after the movie 12 Angry Men from the late 50s

Killer B's
Dolphin defense in the early 80's

Electric Company
Bills offensive line in the mid-70s

Mob Squad
Rams defense from 2015-18

Kardiac Kids
Browns come-from-behind team in the 80s. Cardiac Cards (StL) was another similar nickname from the mid-70s

Dome Patrol
Saints LB unit of the 80s

Crunch Bunch
Giants LBs from the early 80s. Later in the 80s became the Big Blue Wrecking Crew

Dawg Pound
Browns defense from mid 80s; name later awarded to fans in the Brown's end zone

House of Pain
Not a team/player nickname, but rather a cool moniker for the Oiler's dome in the late 80s

others:
Legion of Boom, America's Team... we know about these too.

trivia note: Ram's Fearsome Foursome nickname was also used by the Lions and Chargers in the early 60s. Rams became more famous.

Amazing that the "SOSAR" became the GSOT seemingly overnight.

A couple I think of which resonate with me
- Thunder and Lightning, NY Giants Tiki Barber and Ron Dayne
- Doubleheader with the Redskins, The Fun Bunch and the sub group The Smurfs

Thunder and Lightning was originally the Saints late 70s backfield of Chuck Muncie and Tony Galbreath.

Well, it wasnt the NFL but Eric Dickerson and Craig James "Pony Express" at SMU was pretty cool.
Ok, so it also lead to SMU getting the death penalty and Craig James is a jack wagon, but I digress...
