NFL announces CBS will keep Thursday Night Football
Posted by Michael David Smith on January 18, 2015
Thursday Night Football will remain on CBS for another season.
The league announced today that CBS will keep the Thursday night package in 2015, after a 2014 season that saw strong ratings.
Thursday nights will work the same in 2015 as in 2014: The first eight games of the package will be simulcast on both CBS and NFL Network, and NFL Network will exclusively televise the second half of the Thursday night schedule. CBS will use its lead broadcast team for Thursday nights, as it did in 2014.
The league also announced that CBS and NFL Network will cooperate on two late-season Saturday games, as they did in 2014.
“We are pleased to extend our partnership with CBS for Thursday Night Football,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. “The promotion and production by CBS and NFL Network last season made Thursday night a night for NFL football. We look forward to working again next season with CBS.”
The NFL’s contract with CBS gives the league the option to pick up the 2016 season, if it so chooses. The league may also make the Thursday night packages available for other networks to bid on next year.
