As the league continues to churn the roster of officials, they’ve added 10 new names to the pool this offseason.
The league just released the roster of 122 game officials for the coming season, which includes two hands worth of newcomers.
The league has also promoted John Hussey to referee to replace Bill Leavy, who has been promoted to the league office as a supervisor.
“John Hussey has proven to be an outstanding official and we expect that to continue as he moves to the referee position,” said NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino said.
Three other officials are transitioning to off-field roles, with Darrell Jenkins and Tom Stabile working as officiating trainers, and Darryll Lewis becoming an instant replay official.
The 10 first-year NFL officials include Sarah Thomas, who will be the first female to work a regular season game, along with Kevin Codey, Walt Coleman IV, Hugo Cruz, Bart Longson, Clay Martin, Jonah Monroe, Aaron Santi, Shawn Smith and Jabir Walker.

The NFL has made a point to talk about upgrading the officiating roster, but it doesn’t appear that they’ve culled the herd much this offseason.
Of the seven names on the 2014 roster of 119 officials who were not among the 122 names on the 2015 roster, four were given some degree of promotion or different assignment.
Referee Bill Leavy moved to the league office as an officiating supervisor, while umpire Darrell Jenkins and head linesman Tom Stabile will work as officiating trainers, and line judge Darryll Lewis became an instant replay official.
That left just three names from last year’s list who do not have assignments: Umpire Chad Brown, side judge Jimmy DeBell and back judge Kirk Dornan.
Brown (23 years) and Dornan (21 years) had put in plenty of time, but DeBell had only officiated six seasons.
An article in the Livingston County News (which appears to be his hometown newspaper)confirmed that DeBell was out, but didn’t give a reason. It mentioned that he was not given a playoff assignment in 2014, after working playoff games previously (that’s him with Saints coach Asshole Face in the 2013 season wild card game against the Eagles).
Brown retired in the middle of the 2014 season, after missing games with an undisclosed health issue, according to footballzebras.com, which also reported that Dornan retired.
