Sucks. Way too young. Even though they were done touring I had hoped that they would reunite for a special occasion. RIP and thank you for the some of the greatest music ever.

I started playing the drums because of Mr. Peart, but quit because I sucked at it .

Have seen Rush almost 2 dozen times, and have an autographed 2112 album jacket from a radio station giveaway in the late 80's. Own every album, dvd , and even a couple laser disks if anyone remembers those things LOL

I guess he had been "quietly" battling brain cancer for the last 3 years.

He was a like a magician on those drums. One of a kind.

Sad day.
One of my favorite bands growing up.

Rush sounds just as good today, as I'd did when I was in Jr High.

I actually had to walk away from my desk and teared up for a minute with this one.
As a kid who loved the drums I spent countless hours trying to learn/steal Pearts beats or fills. It was a proud day when I was able to get through Subdivisions on the drums.

There will never be another one like Neil Peart.
A great drummer.
A talented and insightful lyricist.
More important than being technically great....which he was....he was a total original.
Thanks for the music and memories.
Love ya Neil.

I'm in shock. Rush has been my favorite band since i was 18. I got talked into going to a Rush concert in 1981. I wasn't that enthused to go, but I heard the drummer was 'good.' I've seen them on nearly every tour since, including their 'farewell tour' in 2015. Integrity, Talent & Class.

Sad day brothers

An absolutely unique blend of Precision and Creativity. A sad day indeed.

It is a rare thing to have such an amazing drummer and bass player in the same band. My two absolute favorite drum/bass combos were Peart/Lee and Alexander/Claypool.

I guess he had been "quietly" battling brain cancer for the last 3 years.

He was a like a magician on those drums. One of a kind.

That would explain why they abruptly stopped touring.

Peart and Carl Palmer are the two best rock drummers ever. Nobody else is even in the conversation.

Peart was also a world class storyteller too! What great lyrics! It made the music better!

I've watched a couple of documentaries about the band and loved them both.

There is a link further down, you can skip right to that if you don't want to listen to me babbling.

I was exposed to Rush early in life and at the very start of their career. WMMS in Cleveland was one of the most powerful and influential radio stations in the country. They actually won Rolling Stone's "Station of the Year" many years in a row. They started playing Rush and nobody had heard of them. They became a favorite of mine immediately. In school everyone was talking about the song, the buzz around the band was gigantic.

On the album in the liner notes they inserted "thanks to WMMS for getting the ball rolling" or something like that.

This is the woman who brought us Rush. This was taken at the station. The dude on the left with the bad hair was Matt the Cat an on air personality that had a massive following.

This is her with them at the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They are still friends to this day.

Here is the back story nobody knew. If you are even a casual Rush fan you will love this.

Not many people know that Peart wasn't the original drummer.

RIP to you Neil.
