I disagree with the article, you need to have someone covering the team for the website and Lord knows it took many years for a decent Ram website and I thought Simmons did some very good things IMHO.

I've never understood a sports team employing its own journalists. How can there be true scrutiny and objectivity when you're on the payroll?

It is what it is, I don't care much about the objectivity, just LMK how that UDRFA the Rams just signed out of Bethune–Cookman chances of making the final 53.

I think the article made a good point and if I could get a guy who's credentialed and offers 1/4 of a Vinny in replacement of a Myles - I think it's a net gain.

It’s more marketing, really.

It's exactly that. If a fan is looking for objectivity or more to the point scrutiny, they can go to the twitterverse or network media. Independent objective journalism has no payroll behind it backed by a profit-minded organization which means it's become a dinosaur.

You know I didn’t like Myles much when he first started being a skinny twerp but he’s grown as a reporter and a man. He piled on some muscle and his reporting is 10x what it was. Wish him the best! Hope they do something with D’Marco now!

He was always a little hard to watch in video form but his reporting overall was very good in my opinion.

Seems to be a guy that takes his job very seriously and in turn that gives/gave the fans good content.

I've always looked at the role of 'spokesperson' for the Rams as something akin to a presidential 'Press Secretary'. He or she is the appointed person who spins what the top brass want released about the team, and many corporations and government agencies employ them. It's up to the real journalists who cover the team for newspapers & the broadcast media to untangle the truth from fiction. The real problem is access for journalists to properly do their jobs. Miles & Farr do a fine job for what they do on the company dime, but anyone who accepts 100% of what they state as gospel, or that of the HC for that matter, is being naive.

I could not disagree more with the premise of the article. The role of the person in Myles position is to provide information.... to disseminate facts...and present the point of view of the franchise. They aren't there to give their opinion about how the Rams are playing..the decisions they are making ...the veracity of what the team wants communicated... they simply are not there for that. And that's fine because there are scores of places where can hear and express your OPINION about the Rams. Print media, twitter, message boards, espn, the NFL network. There are scores of places to get opinions, and express your opinion. But that's not what Myles position was/is for, and it shouldn't be.

I think about the Lakers and Dodgers studio shows...they are giving us information...there is some analysis, but it's either facts based (ie. this objective fact happened), or it's speculation on what the team might or might not do in terms of player transactions. And again..that's all we need from them. For example, when the Lakers acquired Lebron or Anthony Davis.... sure I was stuck on ESPN on TV....and refreshing Woj Tweets...but I was also waiting on the Laker Channel to go live with Access Sports: Lakers...so I could get the FACTS from the channel, and the show that gives you things from the Lakers perspective...

there is a place for both..it's not one or the other.

we didn't need a Rams reporter to tell us that Fisher's offense was trash.... fans and media across the country were saying it. By TST communicating what Fisher was saying, that helped us understand that we needed to go in another direction. Again, you didn't need TST to tell you that. When the fans walked out on the team in the Coliseum during that Falcons game, that was enough to show the front office it was time for a change and a change was made. People weren't confused because of what Fisher was saying about the offense...we saw what was happening, and made our own statement by walking out. As far as the Gurley example in the article, why on earth would Sean McVay have said Gurley was less than 100%? I mean it was obvious to me.....but why would a coach tell his opponents that a player wasn't 100%, if that player was still going to start, and play? that's now how this works. It's foolish to think a broadcaster/journalist hired by the Rams would press a coach on that issue. Especially when you had the entire football world saying and conjecturing and giving opinions about it if that's what you wanted to hear...

last thing.... Yes they should replace Myles....and I don't check the TST too often, but I do recall there being some issues that came up where they seemed to have some folks who covered the team in St Louis, who were less than flattering or enthusiastic about Los Angeles. The Rams have fans all over the country..all over the world...and they are making all the right moves to grow their brand here in Los Angeles ..the US, and the world. But they are the Los Angeles Rams now...prior to their move to St Louis, The Rams had been in Los Angeles for almost 50 years. The organizations place in Los Angeles is not only socially and culturally historic, but its also been a history that has seen a ton of great players and success. Fortunately we are in the midst of some success as we head into our brand new stadium. The years in St Louis were great, you have a the GSOT era and the Super Bowl...and I know there are still some great fans from and in St Louis who are still fans today. I'd like to see TST and who ever replaces Myles evolve their work into something that's rooted in the Los Angeles Rams in a present tense of course, and the extremely rich history of the team. There is a way to present and cover sports here in Los Angeles... no other region has more pro and big time college sports than this region. The front office and ownership is off to a great start playing by the rules of Los Angeles..... the TST needs to get acclimated and up to speed in that regard as well.

Whatever Myles wants to do, have fun with it. It's hard to believe doing Raiders coverage is a step up, but, whatever

Granted, the appearance isn't that great. However, there can be scrutiny and objectivity where the journalist is committed to his profession and where the team is committed to allowing the journalist be a journalist.

Some people like to paint "the media" with a broad brush and such. There are actual members of the media who take their jobs seriously and treat it like a profession and value credibility. Ultimately the journalist has to prove that they are worth reading - if it's just propoganda, rather than reporting, the journalist isn't going to get the readership.

Rich Hammond seemed to make it work covering the Kings for LAKingsInsider. I think it would be neat if Hammond went from working for Anschutz to working for Kroenke in the same role.

Here's Hammond discussing objectivity and the ability to be critical while being paid by the team:
